Neanderthals, or "cave men" as they're sometimes called, were something like our cousin species. They gave existing their best shot, but evidently they just weren't cut out for the job, and eventually faded into extinction. Life's a race, and not only did we beat them to the finish line - we've been running laps around their long-deceased corpses.

Ha ha, suck it, chumps!

Well, we're now trying to get into this whole cloning business. Like the graceful winners we are, scientists have decided to try and resurrect our long lost cousin of a species.

But how will we create New-anderthals? Well...
Harvard geneticist George Church recently told Der Spiegel he’s close to developing the necessary technology to clone a Neanderthal, at which point all he’d need is an “adventurous human woman” — einen abenteuerlustigen weiblichen Menschen — to act as a surrogate mother.

It’s not out of the question at all. As MIT Technology Review‘s Susan Young points out, scientists cloned an extinct subspecies of ibex in 2009. It died immediately, sure. But they still cloned it.

It's basically like the movie Baby Mama, except minus Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and the incest plotline (Note: I have not seen Baby Mama).

So, how bad could it be? I mean, for the surrogate mother, what could she exp-
According to a 2008 study of a Neanderthal infant skeleton (from which the above image is taken), “the head of the Neanderthal newborn was somewhat longer than that of a human newborn because of its relatively robust face,” and Neanderthal women generally had a wider birth canal than human women. Neanderthal birth was simpler than human birth, because Neanderthal infants didn’t have to rotate to get to the birth canal, but otherwise the processes were very similar.

Alright, ladies, science is calling you. Just don't all sign up at once.

In scientific terms, we understand "human" as "Homo Sapiens", the Neanderthals are in the same family, but they're not Homo Sapiens so I believe it's a loophole that can be easily taken advantage of.

Quite interesting... although I'm not exactly sure if ushering a Neanderthal into the world of today is such a great idea. I mean, it may not be Homo Sapiens, but we're still related - it should be given equal chances not become something we watch at a museum... but hey! Science. :P

Never thought this would actually be considered for moral reasons, kind of like how we don't want to clone humans.
He would be born without anyone to love, the only one of his kind. It's kind of cruel when you think about it, but then again the neanderthals is a mystery in need of an answer.

As for people volunteering, they probably won't have a hard time finding one. I mean the world is full of people doing crazy shit.

There's no chance in hell that this will occur thanks to all the legal and moral implications.

And I question the value in resurrecting one, anyways.

also Neanderthals are a prime example of evolution at work

TBH I question the existance of neanderthals entirely, For all we know, that corpse could have been merely an abnormality such as a infant with two brains...:|(This happened recently actually, it was two babys sharing a body, the skull was enlarged in the back)

I think it would be very interesting to see how a Neanderthal grows up in the modern day way of living.
We will be able to see if they were just as smart as us or not, etc.
I have no doubt that it would be able to learn all things we can do today, maybe just not as fast.

There is of course the question of ethics as always. If this succeeds, this child is doomed to scientific experiments and interest from the press.

We've found tons of Neanderthal remains (over 400 according to Wikipedia), all of which are easily distinguishable from Homo Sapiens. Not to mention, we have their (obviously distinct) DNA to examine and study as well - that's how this whole cloning idea is possible in the first place.

we have fossil proof of them it was one of the 2 human species that were left in Africa

they move north and evolve to handle the cold they were build stronger our species eventually also left African and meet up with them were are one of the reason they die out
