Hacking Adding coin batteries to pro sx dongle?

capacitors aren't batteries, and you can't just replace one with the other!

Even if they are technically serving the same purpose in a circuit, it is only because the circuit has been engineered that way. All the supporting electronics in the power section of the sx pro dongle will have been designed around capacitors, and would need to be completely different to use some other form of power.

This makes no sense to me. You guys keep saying it doesn’t work like that; you can’t replace capacitors with batteries, etc...

But how is installing the dongle internally and feeding it power directly from the switch any different?????

The switches battery in this case is what would power on the internally installed dongle? Explain this. Clearly it works since a couple people have done this and even wrote up guides on how to install it, after reading those forums I haven’t read of any problems with the switches circuits frying or anything.

This defeats the frustration of buying a $47 dongle that is now dead.
I at least want to make use of this paper weight I have.

IDK what others are reporting but if the dongle receives power from switch and looses when disconnected. we can replicate that the only difference is im using the volume button to control the power part as i dont think keeping power the whole time switch is in is safe

Without knowing the full schematic I can't say for sure, but from the photos it looks like the internal sx pro mod thing is soldering the vcc wire on the exit to the capacitor part of the circuit, thus bypassing the part of the circuit the capacitors were involved with.

If you soldered a 5v battery of some sort to those same points it should work, but you can't just take 2 batteries and solder them to the same points as the caps and expect it to work, as was asked in the OP.

Put it this way, would you expect to be able to take the battery out of your mobile phone and just replace it with a big capacitor, and it work? No, of course you wouldn't, same process here.
