Every version of Black Ops is shit when it comes to how well the online was made for it.

The online is shoddy, riddled with errors on everything it was released for, and barely works. I am truly disappointed in this release, as even MW2's online works far better than this and has from the beginning.

The PC version wasn't even playable on launch for the first month or so until enough fixes came out. Even then, online was still really iffy for people. Why not shut down that awful online? I see no reason why this is even being considered.

A heads up: 360 doesn't get the map packs first because Activision just sorta likes the system more, Microsoft has to pay for the exclusive time period. More than likely a good deal of money too due to the popularity of the series and the profit to be made off of a multi-platform map pack release.

As long as Microsoft continues to pay for exclusive time, the 360 is basically in the green (a pun maybe?) in terms of online service in games made by Activision.

Sounds highly improbable. They'd be blowing way too much money and there's a new map pack coming relatively soon. I've heard of the same issues from people but I've still seen my PS3 owning friends play it online. I doubt these errors make the game completely unplayable online.

If they did I'm sure an entire community of CoD fans would be fist-deep in Activision's ass.

You know the funniest part tho???

PC gaming has had piracy FOREVER. So devs made security in the games themselves or with other checks, and on the other end the PC is left wide open.
So what makes the game developers think that it is sony's responsibility to protect their games when they are forced to protect it themselves on other platforms??

Activision is just a lazy company. Seriously...

Closing the servers isn't due to the recent hacking breakthroughs on the PS3, it's because Black Ops on the PS3, since launch, has had a ton of issues online (like connectivity and what not). It says so in the article. The Infinity Ward part just basically says IW are pissy because MW2 had hackers on the PS3. Big fucking deal.

I agree. They would lose LOTS of fans and money.

Do they have a fourm? I imagine I wouldn't be able to even access it if this happens. Overload from too many pissed off fans.

Pissed off fans you say?

I'll say this:

This kind of "threat" wouldn't have been made if retards of the world didn't hack the shit out of a game to make themselves look better online. Personally I think they SHOULD shut it down, maybe then it'll send a message to the multiplayer hackers that they can't go around ruining other peoples gaming as and when they feel.

No I don't own a Ps3 so yes I can say this easily BUT I do own a xbox 360 and its had this problem a hell of a lot longer (online hackers) than the PS3 has. The PS3 has been blown wide open, don't go thinking those that don't know anything about hacking outweigh those that do, because it only takes 1 of them to ruin a session, kick them? not available in matchmaking, get them banned? good look trying they'll still be playing next week.
Piracy gives s light downer on profits, hackers ruin games.

Yeah seriously. I don't know if it's this way too for the PS3, but for Xbox, not only can they ban your account, they can ban your whole console from accessing XBL.

I didn't realize that all mentally challenged people worldwide collaborated on CoD cheats for the PS3. I think that was an odd first order of business, but I'll take your word for it. And yes, this "threat" still would have been made, because the Black Ops servers have had connectivity problems that have been totally independent of the security failures found in the PS3.

As for the cheating:

Many doors sold today come with locks because, even though breaking into someone's house is wrong, everyone is aware of the possibility of thievery, and should take measures to prevent that. By the same token, while cheaters in these kinds of games are wrong for knowingly ruining a game for both the developer and the players enjoying it, measures have to be taken by the developer to prevent cheating. Every game is going to see people trying to hack it or cheat at it, with malicious intent or not.

Forget the lock at this point there is no longer a door. If they put up another door it'll just get taken down. Why bother trying to keep up the door when you know it'll just be taken down again. You might as well just move, which is what Activision is talking about.

If you're saying that every gaming company needs to take into consideration every possible avenue of attack then good luck with waiting on that.

At this point, I hope Sony will just make PSN a paid service. It may not keep cheaters out 100%, but at least they are getting a dime for people jumping on their network even if it's to cheat.

Yeah, I know. I was sort of joking in that post. I actually own both consoles and I got Black ops for my xbox. I didn't play online though because I didn't have xbox live. Though I still knew that I probably wouldn't like it, so I traded it in and use the rest of my money to buy me a ps2 because my ps3 is not BC.

This is the only thing I hate about hacking on the ps3. It will lead to this no matter what. I have been in hacked lobbys before. Like on Halo. I remember one hacked lobby where if you jumped in one part of the wall, it would teleport you.

However, they should assign "admins" 24/7 watching over COD:BO servers match and reject cheaters. At least if they want to keep their customers happy, and not enraged.

god no.
I remember when stuff like that was going on on CS 1.6 servers, and every bloody day a legit pro gamer like me got kicked off servers and insulted by noobs because i could kick their ass.
In my opinion, games that suffer from online cheating need a client side check (VAC, PB, etc.), and a user vote system to kick a player off.
