Greetings all, and happy new years if you celebrate it. I have a Supercard DS One (not DS Onei) And I was given a DSi XL firmware 1.4 or something like that. I was suggested to get an Acekard 2i or an R4i Gold if money is an issue, But seeing as how the Acekard is less than 5 dollars more than the R4i Gold, I may get that instead to play my games. Now here's the thing, I just want the basic functionality that was given to me by my Supercard DS One. Play games, Use cheats (Unfortunately I'm not THAT good at some game types, heh), and Save States. I don't need music playback because I have that on my cellphone. Video playback... On such a small screen, is not attractive to me. I'm "blind" enough as I am. And I'm gonna use the same Micro SD that I used with the Supercard DS One. I plan on once I have a job and being stable, trading in the DSi XL and get a 3DS.

So with this info in mind, which card of the two above should I get? Or perhaps throw other cards into the equation for consideration. What does the Supercard DS Two have that makes it more expensive than the others? Pros and Cons? I will now go read reviews for the cards to help myself out as well, thank you in advanced for your time.

EDIT: I am currently reading up the Which Flashcart should I get sticky, and it seems that the features I am looking for in the iSMart MM and Supercard DS Two... Hmmm.... At least so does the chart say. I dont need slow motion nor to create cheats on the fly... What special homebrew does the Supercard DS Two have that can make it worthwhile?

The DSTwo has RTS, the AK2i doesn't.
You mentionned you wanted to have RTS support, so get a DSTwo.

Thank you Pingouin. I am at shoptemp as I write. Which place you suggest I get the Supercard DS Two from, that can ship quickly to Puerto Rico? (I'm only here until the 24, though I can have it shipped to my new home if it arrives here late)

EDIT: NDSGAMER.com any good?

Unfortunately, I can't help on that.
When I bought my DSTwo, I bought it from Lightake with free shipping, which took at least a month to arrive.

Lightake is the slowest reseller/shipper I have ever used. I have bought cards at the same exact time from another business in the same area as Lightake, and the package from Lightake showed up a week later than the other package. -1 Lightake.com :nayps3: Good prices and horrible customer service. They have sent me defective flash cards, as well as wrong products. Plus, their customer service addressing self-created mistakes is seriously iffy. They don't understand English all that well, and apparently they don't use a service like Google Translate.

Well Lightake was one of the recommended sellers for the Limited Edition Supercard DSTwo.

I understand. Why are they no longer a recommended seller here at gbatemp? I know they still sponsor ps3hax
Where is a list of the recommended sellers? So far I've only seen a list on Shoptemp and they were just advertising new discounts there..

Shipping time may vary a lot on HK Post. It's got nothing to do with what a certain shop. If the post office sends something from district X to international shipping on day A and from district Y on day B, they may not arrive on the same plane to the States even though they were posted on the same date. They don't honestly send stuff every day with airmail. They send them in shipments = quite a few packages. I've bought stuff from certain stores and stuff ordered on the same day and shipped on the same day arrived one week in between.

I'd recommend Lightake.com and Zhuzhuchina.com. Both have been good stores for my needs (dealextreme.com too, but they don't sell flashcarts anymore)..

It's slow everywhere that I've order from China. I don't think they're slower than other.

As for their customer service, I actually find them heads and shoulders above the place I use to order from NDScardsale and DX. Any problems I had with Lightake had been resolved quickly and to my satisfaction.

The only reason not to get the DSTWO would be the higher price. It has way more features such as real time save, slow motion, free cheat, real time game guide, GBA/SNES emulation, DivX video playing.
Also free cheat is not just being able to create cheats on the fly, it also lets you toggle individual cheats ingame without restarting the DS to choose new cheats.
The DSTWO receives quicker/more updates too, as evident by the AK2i not being updated for the Super Mario 3D Land update until 3.0.0 was released.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
