I haven't had a chance to update B9S or Luma since B9S itself first came out. So just to confirm: Pretty much all of the steps to update both Luma itself (If I were to download the .zip for Luma3DS and just extract it instead of using the updater app) as well as to update B9S work through the A9-boottime exploit and don't actually require the 3DS to fully boot... and thus none of this activity will show up in my recently used apps or any other possible logging/recording system Nintendo has on the 3DS right?

I did take the steps to disable sending Nintendo any information over SpotPass or through my friends list (and yes, I am also aware that we are not certain that's how Nintendo caught and banned people), but I just want to be extra-sure about this.

Finally.... is there any way I can run JK's Save Manager to backup my saves without leaving any trace (other than the app itself being installed of course) that I used it in logs or recent history?

You are right that there shouldn't be any trace when you update to B9S for the reasons you already mentioned. As for JKSM, you can use Luma3DS 8.1 to load the JKSM homebrew application by injecting the homebrew launcher into a stock app. That should also result in no trace being left.

I also just realized that I used a very old (by current standards) version of the guide when I hacked my 3DS and still have FBI installed in the Health and Safety thing.... could that be detectable? Is there any easy way to undo it? I think modern versions of Descrypt9WIP can now inject the original Health & Safety app back, can't they? Or would I need some kind of backup of the original app to do it first? I use the SOON2 app to install CIAs anyway.

Descrypt9WIP should be able to restore the stock Health and Safety app without a backup. My guess is that it's not detectable, but I don't know for sure. I'd restore it regardless.

For things like JKSM and FBI, you can use the L+Down+Select menu in Luma3DS 8.1 for 3DSX loading. It's likely undetectable. As you probably already know, you need to update from A9LH to B9S in order to be able to use Luma3DS 8.1. If you're suggesting it has been a long time since you've updated Luma3DS, I recommend you update to Luma3DS 7.0.5 before you follow the above guide to install B9S.

I hacked my N3DS a while ago, back when the guide was about 8 or so pages of steps that take roughly 6-8 hours, but I have been keeping it mostly up to date since. I did update from A9LH to B9S when it first came out, but have not updated B9S since, I am still on basically the first publicly released version of B9S, and whatever version of Luma was released back then. I noticed that B9S was being updated very few days so I wanted to wait until it settled down a bit to update it again.

Never attempted to the 3DSX loading method, I thought those were just for loading through the homebrew loader? (Of which, launching said loader would leave a log entry)? I am not even sure if my CIA installer of choice has a 3DSX option since it hasn't been updated in a while.

First, you should update to B9S 1.2 if you haven't already done so. Newer versions of Luma3DS are not compatible with older versions of B9S. https://3ds.guide/updating-b9s

With Luma3DS 8.0 and 8.1, you can now load a new version of the homebrew launcher without leaving a trace. FBI has a 3DSX option.

Wait, so I can only launch 3dsx files through the Homebrew Launcher? But woulden't running the homebrew launcher itself show up then? I have it installed as CIA.
