From my experience, I would rather go with separate emulators. Retro doesn't give options for each specific emulator it has, just general settings. I had issues trying to map different keys with my PS3 controller. Really though, you should try them out and see for yourself. Most of the emulators worth getting are actually free, like the Gameboid one.

If you want to root it and mess with the rom, don't even consider getting a Samsung phone. They're extremely laggy thanks to the Exynos chip and Samsung's policy of not releasing any documentation for it.

Even CyanogenMod runs badly on that device.

you shouldn't be because you have the s3 with the dual core snapdragon s4 and 2GB ram, not the international edition with the quad core exynos and 1GB ram

Gameboid definitely. As for rooting, look up some guides on why you should root if you haven't already. You might want to get a little bit more of an idea of what it means to be rooted.

Good that you aren't getting the International edition, because Exynos sucks (as in, Samsung doesn't care about devs). I'm pretty sure they still don't have a stable/fully working version of Cyanogenmod on it. Anyway, you should be fine, don't worry. Rooting usually takes a few seconds and I would recommend that you install an AOSP rom, just to get rid of all the Touchwiz bloat. If you want links to stuff, just let me know and I'll gladly help.

Just to add to that, if you happen to still like some of the TouchWiz features, a lot of the apps can be acquired from the XDA Developer forums.

Yeah but as far as I know, most of them don't work without the TouchWiz framework.
