So some people know about my situation with my phone. Stopped working, and I was paying 74.95 a month for a phone that stopped working. I got it sorted out today, signed up with a different company, got a new phone. There's a bit of a long story ahead, so it'll be spoilered. But if you're in Canada, I highly suggest you avoid Rogers at all costs. They will do nothing but rip you off, and try to take advantage of you. Warning: Spoilers inside! Okay, so I was with Rogers from September 2011 and had to go to 2014 until my contract ended. My contract consisted of: 1GB data Unlimited Text/Picture Early evenings starting from 6pm Free Weekends and My10 Canada wide. And I was paying 74.95 a month. Then for some reason it went up to 82.00, I go over my data by 10mb, I shut my phone off until I pay them, I get charged an extra 50 dollars. And now it's back down to 74.95 My phone stopped worked last fall, so I go to one of the Rogers stores and asks them how much it costs to get a new phone. The woman there says "it'll be a couple hundred, it's cheaper to just go to Bell to get it repaired." So I go to Bell, explain the situation, that I can't let my phone die otherwise it won't turn on unless I'm extremely lucky. The guy says "It's cheaper to just buy a new phone." So I walk away from that and just put up with the phone. Then it randomly shut off and can't turn back on again. I go to a different Rogers place today, and ask them how much to get a new phone, it'll be about 300 dollars (with 18 months left remaining on my contract). I said (I was with my sister at the time) "Okay man, we'll go talk about it". She tells me about Virgin and how she's with them and they're awesome. So I check out Virgin. I tell the guy about my situation, and the deal I'm paying at Rogers, he goes "Yeah, pardon my language, but you're getting fucked by them. He comes to me with what they can offer and shows me a list. I sign up for a much better plan with them consisting of: 2GB Data Call Display Canada wide calling Email-short messages (don't really know what this is) MyPeeps (like My10 at Rogers) Pay Per Use Voice - U.S Roaming Standard Long Distance Rate to U.S and Canada. Text and picture to Canada, U.S and International Unlimited Anytime Minutes Unlimited Incoming Text Voice Mail 10 included First month free I would have paid $100, but the guy said "I can pay 50 and you pay 50". So I did that. I got a brand new phone and a much better deal, the best part, cheaper by 10 bucks compared to what Rogers was giving me. And 10% of my phone bill paid, goes to paying off the phone too, so why the hell not? The best, I'm not on a contract, I'm on a tab. Warning: Spoilers inside! So after I got home, the first thing I did was to call Rogers to cancel my account. It shouldn't be no more than 400, tops. I get on the phone, the guy says "Okay, it'll be 575". I say to him "whoah whoah whoah.. what? But I don't have that many months left" and explained to him, that It's 20 per month for 18 months, which will be 360. So the guy goes off about these random numbers that I have no idea how he gets. That's when I go "Let me speak to your manager" "Sir, I'm the highest available person to help you." "Bullshit, somebody taught you, you take orders from someone, let me speak to them" "Sir, I'm telling you, I'm the only on.." "Let me speak to your supervisor right now!" He puts me on the phone with his supervisor, meanwhile I'm telling my older sister how much I'm paying. She goes "give me the phone right now!" That's when Rogers was pretty much fucked. My sister gets on the phone: "Hi, don't care what your name is, why is my brother being charged 575 to cancel his account, when it clearly states on his statements and contracts with you guys, the max is 400 dollars. Which doesn't matter because we did the math, it'll only be 360 dollars." And the Supervisor says that apparently I have outstanding data and everything and bills. And my sister is like "Really? Ryan (me), bring up your email and show us the bill Rogers sent you Yesterday showing how much you owe." So I open up Gmail, and bring up the bill, $74.95. "Did you pay it?" I open up my bank account information online, that I paid that same day. So the guy says "If you don't pay us the $575, we'll get a collections agency after him." My sister tells me this, I grab the phone, "Listen dude, I'm unemployed. You can send a collections agency after me but the best I can give you is a few video games and some clothes. Let me speak to your manager" My sister and mom are laughing, manager comes on. We explain the whole story again. Manager goes "Huh... I have no idea how they're getting those numbers, and why the hell they're threatening you. Tell you what, tell us the deal you're getting, the type of phone you have, and we'll match it" So I do. They offer me the same thing they're already giving me (1GB data etc), but they'll only charge me $64.00, and they'll upgrade my phone. I was like "thank you, much better" I hang up. And then I ask my sister, "so... are they trying to lock me into a contract again?" "...I didn't ask, you should call and find out." I call them back, ask right away, let me speak to the manager and gave the name, and reference number. I go "Hi, we were just on the phone about my dilemma, and the deal you guys are offering me to keep me countering the other companies deal. I was just wanting to clarify, will I be signing up for another 3 year contract?" "Yes, when you pick up you're new phone, you'll be signing for a 3 year contract." "Fuck that, I want to cancel my account right now." They go off about how much it's going to cost me ($400 before tax). I said "Listen, we're doing the math right here, and it clearly states, $20.00 per month, with 18 months. Which brings it up to $360. That's what I want. I'm not behind on payments or anything. I want that. They say "Well, okay, we'll give you that, but you'll still have to pay for next month" "Wait, what the fuck? I'm not going to be using the service next month, why the hell am I paying for a service I'm not using or will be a part of?" "It's how your billing works sir" "No it doesn't, I'm not paying that for the month that I won't be associated with you guys. That doesn't make sense." "Yeah but it's part of the 18 months." "But I'm not using you guys anymore starting today. How can you do that?" They go off about excuses about how it's policy and rules and shit.We eventually worked it to where I don't pay for next month. So I'm still mad and say: "Well I'm not paying for next month, I paid for this month, that means that it's only 17 months I'm paying for" And they hesitatingly agreed. That one was a bit wordy, but it was a looong time, about 2-3 hours on the phone with them catching them in their lies and them breaching their own contract. So I'll only be paying 380 with tax, plus the 2-3 days of the service I'll be under, so it's about 390 or so. Long story short, if you're in Canada, get away from Rogers. Don't let them scam you. Do some shopping, there are better services. Virgin Mobile offered a much better deal, WITH NO CONTRACT!
