Installed some bad homebrew cia that totally screwed up my home menu and fucked up sysnand, but I just hold L+R to boot in to decrypt 9 and restored my sysnand from a backup and my 3ds works perfectly again. Thanks A9LH.

This thing is so worth it.

I think that the risk is worth it on o3ds, but not on new 3ds as it costs much more and you have a larger probability of bricking it as you even need to unbrick the emunand, and even as the new 3ds was never intended to have a <8.1 fw ver.

It's worth it on N3DS, my three N3DS systems disagree with its not worth it red XL/Majora/Pokemon.

All three A9LH installed and running great.

I'm a bit scared of downgrading my new 3ds ambassador edition (and I don't want to hardmod it as it's an extremely rare version)

I feel like that the fear of bricking is being unreasonably magnified. I've got my n3DS last week and I absolutely didn't know ANYTHING about the system, the only research I had done beforehand was to check if there was a specific firmware version I had to get and, look for a guide that instructed me on the steps to follow.

20 minutes after having gotten my 3ds, I started to follow plailect guide and apart from a 2 hours hiccup in which I tried over and over (and consumed my index finger in the process) to get sysupdater to work, the rest went smoothly. Slow, due to how long nand backup takes but smooth. If you follow a GOOD guide and take the time to double or hell, even triple check what you're doing, the risk is minimal. I didn't even know of this place a week ago and if I had, after reading all the people that discourage a9lh on here, I would have been more than a little hesitant to install it, if not skipping it altogether.

The risk is there no question about it, but more often than not the first cause of bricking is located between the 3ds and the chair. Again, I am about as green as you can get when it comes to 3ds stuff and half of the terms used in this forums still go over my head yet, by following a well structured guide I managed it. With the recent Aurora a9lh tool, things should be even easier.

Welcome mate, and you are correct, the fear of bricking is way too high around here, specially for doing homebrew stuff to start with. ANYTHING done with homebrew COULD brick you, so if thats even a problem in your mind then you shouldnt be messing with homebrew to begin with in my personal opinion.

But, all that being said, Ive installed a9lh on 3 different 3ds's. First was my new 3ds XL black which was on system version 10.3, second was an old 3ds on system version 10.5, and last was a new 3ds XL red which was system version 9.9. Success on all 3, and was not super complicated to follow the plailect guide. Heck it is even easier and safe to install it now than it was when I did it awhile back.

Main point is, if you follow the guide to the letter, double/triple check each step on your first time through, you should not have any problems.

Since this topic magically reappeared anyway:

No, the risk of accidentally updating sysnand (thus the need of using emunand, which wastes space and doesn't directly support GBA/DSiware), and the inconvenience of slower and less reliable booting, is not worth skipping 40 minutes of simple work

Although to be fair, when this topic was active it took several hours and was incredibly risky

My opinion is, although installing A9LH now has a very very very low chance of brick, it's still possible.
So, I decide to explain to the one who want to hack about the risk, and let him/her decide on him/her own.
If he/she become a bad case, got bricked even he/she following the guide correctly, he/she can't blame me.

This would be a very sensible attitude if most people were capable of thinking and doing basic research for themselves; unfortunately, it will likely result in "gba emelator just reboots", "i copied all files to a new sd and it doesn't boot", "11.3 free downgrade nao"

That's why I only explain in the most easier way to them and let them choose.
