A9LH Luma3DS: Should Clock + L2 be enabled at all times on the N3DS?

Is there any downsides to having it enabled all the time? Has anyone noticed any shorter battery life compared to default settings? If yes, how much?

Also, what is the difference between Clock + L2 vs just Clock? I know it adds extra cache, but what exactly can you benefit from it?

Last but not least, I'm not sure how clocking works, but for scenes that do not have 3D, or scenes that do not benefit from the clock speed (already runs smooth on the o3ds), does it still drain more battery through unnecessary power? Or does the clock speed work as "removing the limit" and adjust how much the game needs?

I heard just clock will work with every single game. I am interested in the answer as well.

I heard that extra battery usage is present, but it barely makes a difference to even pay mind to it. You'd be using 5% more battery I heard.

I also heard that N3DS exclusive games don't work without L2 and depend on it. BUT L2 can cause some regular 3DS games to crash. So it's a matter of switching between different settings for what you need.

    My experiance has been;
    - L2+Clock = some games break

    - L2 or Clock = same results in speed boost
Clock only = less games break
L2 only = even less games break and probably better battery life.

Therefore I recommend only L2 as default. Note, any option will likely break some homebrew.

that would make no sense in using Just L2
Clock is Actual Clock speed increase from 268mhz to 804mhz
L2 is just activation of the extra Cache

Also the extra Clock speed is required for Snes VC's, Monster Hunters 4, Hyrule Warriors Legends and Xenoblade etc

What makes no sense is your comment not having tried it first!

I'd keep them both off unless you're going to be playing something that you specifically know benefits from it without breaking the game.

It only affects O3DS games (N3DS games or N3DS enhanced games, including SNES VC, will run with the higher clock+L2 regardless, making this hack irrelevant), and there are many O3DS games that are capped at 60 fps even on a O3DS, so the extra clock cycles will be wasted. It's a nice option, but you'll just be draining your battery by full-timing it, and you might even be getting erratic behavior in some games

Actually it does effect N3DS games aswell setting L2 Cache Only will force games that require L2 cache + Clock Speed to Lag
Aka Snes VCs run at 10 fps

Also some games get noticeable improvements especially pokemon etc. if we had a way to set it game specific though it would be great

What make not sense is your logic that Cache gives the same speed boost as 600MHZ per core
I am literally sitting here with DKC open at slideshow speeds because L2Cache is enabled only

So, did anyone test for example MGS3 with this enabled? That game on O3DS goes in like 15FPS most of the time, if this makes it go to stable 30, it's huuuge improvement!

Didn't know this, it must completely override the default behavior

edit: I think the "off" setting should be renamed to "default" to alleviate confusion

Your abrasive but factual in many threads, keep them on their toes...... that they may learn how to fish from you, instead of complaining they have none, that they are starving, when your not catching it for them.....

The only games I've had problems with so far are Final Fantasy Explorers (crashes on some transitions after Dialogue) and Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor (Does not crash but takes like a Minute to load cutscenes, including the Intro when the game starts)
You can still play both with clock + L2 though when you use NTR to switch to standard clock before the game would crash and turn it back to clock + L2 after.

Well L2 produces the same effect in framerate boost as clock only on sonic all stats racing and snoopy grand adventure.

I never said 600 MHz is the same as L2 cache. Just most game I tried seem to benefit equally by simply having access to L2 only.

Anyone done much testing with Donkey Kong Returns? After playing at a silky-smooth 60fps on the Wii I was pretty disappointed with the 3DS port
