Multiple valid options, here are 2 of them (and there are more):

1- copy via network to dev_hdd0/packages/*.pkg, install via xmb/packages/hdd
2- copy to NTFS usb drive, mount the package (only 1 at a time) via a file manager that supports this feature (like Irisman's or maybe Managunz's), install via xmb/packages/standard

if it's still working like that (I didn't follow PS3 scene for few years) :

3. split the pkg on your computer with specific tool, put it on FAT32 partition HDD.
Then use a PS3 file manager to move the split pkg back to internal HDD dev_hdd0 and it'll unplit automatically. install via xmb/packages/hdd ?

bot this split solution and network solution were my choices. to get a higher transfer rate you can plug pc directly to console, don't use a router.

which tool did you use to split? I remember the filename had to be something like .666xxx (with xxx the split part number)
then you needed a PS3 file manager which understood it had to unsplit while transferring to internal. I always used MultiMan file manager to do it.
maybe your manager didn't understand it was split or was expecting another file extension?

Not sure which software it was (I'll edit my thread in a few hours when I am back home), but the files where named part01 and so on. That means that you are probably right and Multiman needs the other format.
