Gaming A spot of trouble with my DVD/CR drive

Up until recently it had been, but for the last week or so it hasn't been able to read CDs, blank, audio, or anything.

It reads DVDs just fine, and I have the newest drivers, I've uninstalled the driver, reinstalled it, downgraded to SP2 (XP) and then back to SP3, nothing seems to work, haha.


Anyone give me some help to get it reading CDs again?

Sounds like it may be on its way out ... you won't be able to read a blank cd ... what do you expect to find on it ? .....its blank!

have you checked the DMA settings?

It should be set to DMA on all drives and not PIO!


have a look at this guide here and check

does it not detect a cd disk in the drive at all whatever disk you try?

I mean it dosen't detect blank CDs or audio CDs.

Check'd the guide, they are both DMA Enabled (and set to DMA.)

Just grab a new one. DVD drive issues are tricky and often not worth it to invest too much time in fixing them. $50 for a new one that does the lot (and i mean the lot), and thats in Australia!
