Gaming A Shadow's Tale/Lost in Shadow Orange Floor Light?

Can anyone tell me what the orange lights emanating from the floor are in this game? I've come across them maaaaany times and I'm starting to wonder that I'm missing something pretty obvious. I've tried pressing every button when stood over them, held B on them and still nothing.

Does anyone know what I'm meant to do with them?

Just wait until you get almost to the top of the tower. You wont be able to use them until youve progressed a bit in the game. I was worried about this for a while too, but once i got towards the top it was fine.
