First of all, I'd like to state that I'm in the 7th grade. Anyway, I got into Algebra. Me and 5 others were the only ones who get to skip Pre-Algebra. Algebra is starting out easy as hell, but it's probably going to get a bit harder as we get farther into the text book.

I'm doing Pre-Algebra right now, and I'm in the 8th grade. I hate math, it makes no sense

I love math, it's my best subject, whereas I hate social studies. It's so boring

I love Social Studies! Its my best subject, and the only one I'm remotely interested in.

I'm detecting a pattern. I know 10 people who enjoy social studies and is their best subject, but they don't seem to be interested in math.

I like math when it's useful.

Grade 10 and 11 math were the biggest wastes of my school career. Besides English 12, which was more poetry and Shakespeare then English.

Math 10/11 are completely useless for 95% of jobs, and 99% of non-career tasks.
I wish I woulda known Accounting 11 could have taken the place of my Math 11 grad requirement. I ended up taking Accounting 11 in Gr.12, and aced it (99% in the course, totally deserved 100). If I had known how easy it would be >_> I'd have simultaneously done Accounting 12 and aced it too.

As for Social studies...yeah. It's interesting some times, but learning about the past bores the crap out of me. I think I slept more in Social studies 11 then I ever did in any other class, and i've had some boring classes.

Math is mainly boring and monotonous, though some of it IS useful. But you'd still be better off learning it, just imagine doing trigonometry without it. Hey, I'm the rare guy who hates both math and social studies, muahahaha.

Courses by class??

In our school we have several different classes in each course (eg. my Algebra 2 class has a third of sophomore, junior and senior), so we never refer to them like that. We just refer to them as "Algebra 2 Honors", "AP World History" etc. I've never seen it done like that in highschool... o_o

EDIT: Oh, but on topic, I prefer Math over Social Studies, but I sleep in both anyways. I just get a better grade in Math.

I guess that makes me the nerd. A few years ago when I was still in Grad school I took Theoretical Mathematics I and II for fun, and got an A in each.

Theo Math is stuff like base 8 or base 6 math (ch. 1) and then it starts to combine physics and math into stuff like predicting the future state of an atom given inf amount of information about it now (tech impossible) or using the vibrations of an atom to tell relative time in different gravitational/velocity states. (ch. 10) TM2 is more like an art course, you get to create your own math and use it to explain whatever world/universe you want. I personally did base 4 math in an inf multiverse with 28 dimensions and explained the concept of Pi in those terms.

Yeah, the American school system seems to be miles different then the Canadian school system.
My friend explained a bunch of it to me. Definitely glad i'm Canadian, lol. School is just...a lot simpler. Granted, my highschool did things differently even compared to other highschools in my area, but how our system worked was amazing.

Isn't all of this a bit too complicated to talk about when it's a 7th grader who started the thread? (no offense, brah)

In Sweden, where I go to gymnasium, all maths before 11th grade are a huge joke in this country, as they are extremely basic to anyone outside of Scandinavia. Every year, I've aced maths, never had any issues with it, and I've just lazed along, it's always been a no-brainer. It's nerdy to say it, but I wish we had harder maths here, since I've never felt challenged by it in school.

It amazes me how young some people are on this site...

I'm a Senior now. I was going to go to pre-calculus, but I decided to take Statistics (My teacher has been at our school for like 40+ years, and doesn't do anything. Lmao).

Algebra 1 sucked. I had a Calculus AP teacher teach it, and it was easily the hardest class I've ever taken. Then again, I was a freshman, and didn't care about much.

I'm actually incredibly good at math, learning it is the hard part. My Algebra 1 teacher bored me freshman year, and I struggled. My Geometry teacher was easier to pay attention to, and I passed that class never going below an A. This year I'm having a hard time focusing on my Algebra 2 teacher's lessons, but trying. Right now it's easy (basic factoring is one of the easiest things I've done since first semester Algebra 1) but I know that it's going to get tougher later. If I would have taken Algebra 2 alongside Geometry last year, I could be in Pre-Calc this year, and AP Calc when I'm a senior next year. Oh well. I might take AP English or Poli Sci next year, or maybe even Chemistry depending on how well Accelerated Chem goes this year.

So now it's shifted to the difficult of said classes, eh?

The summer before freshman year, I took Algebra 1 to get my credits so I could immediately go into Geometry. We had class from 8:00 to 12:00 every day, with a 15 minute break in the middle. We learned a few things each day, nailing each down with a test. The teacher was good and the method was good, and I didn't have any problems. Then again, it also helped that I had taken Pre-Alg twice (both years of intermediate for some reason).

Geometry was a horrible class. My teacher didn't know how to teach, it was all bookwork, and the lessons were spread out over a week. I barely passed that class.

I'm in Algebra 2 this year (sophomore). My teacher is awesome. He's pretty funny, and knows how to explain things in a minimal yet informative way, making it easy to learn. We barely ever do book work. It's a pretty easy class, but I don't do my homework often, which lowers my grades a bit. I still passed the first quarter with a low A, though, and that makes me happy. I'm hoping that I'll eventually be able to shoot for a straight A semester for all my classes.
