So I think I just want to buy the OS, the dongle doesn’t seem needed but I just have a couple of questions.

1. This being the most important, should I do anything to my switch (currently not modded at all) before installing SX OS or are all other hacks out now atm meaningless to use with it?

2. I read it on a few reviews but still a little confused but is it true that once the OS is installed normal game cards don’t load anymore? So I’d have to backup carts I own and play them in SX mode?

3. What’s the benefit of AutoRCM mode once the OS has been installed and is it true you can’t charge the switch while it’s docked with this installed?

1) I wouldn't say the other hacks are meaningless, if you want to use homebrew then I'd recommend using hekate in combination as well (homebrew support in hekate is much better imo and you can switch between hekate and sx depending on your usage)

2) They'll work if you boot into the unmodified firmware (sx os has an option to do this)

3) Allows you to go into RCM mode without using a jig, stopping potential wear and tear. Switch will charge normally as long as you leave it in sleep mode.

Thank you for the help :) just one more quick question about your answer for question 2, as long as I keep it in sleep mode, once the SX os is installed I can easily switch back and forth to the unmodified firmware and SX right?

Yes but remember that SX OS isn't technically installed. Since it will be lost when the console is turned off, its not considered an installation. That's why it would be recommended to keep the Switch in sleep mode to preserve SX OS.

thank you thats what im going to do keep the switch in docked mode (as it currently is i have no use for it as a handheld) after installing the SX OS. i was a little worried cause i read in a couple of threads earlier it doesnt charge if you install autoRCM mode but i think that meant it doesnt charge while its in RCM mode?

It will charge in RCM with AutoRCM installed but much, much slower. Even if the battery does run out with AutoRCM, its not the end of the world. Either keep the console in sleep mode all the time or turn it off manually by holding power for at least 10 seconds to ensure the Switch does not re-enter RCM when its turned off.

1. Backup up your nand, disable auto game update, disable info reporting in system setting. Disable info reporting from your Nintendo ID account by logging into your Nintendo account on your computer (only available outside the US)
2. SX OS emulate game cart. You can play your own game cart in OFW and in SX as long as you have not mounted a backup game cart. To play backups you also need to remove your game cart from the game cart slot.
3. You don’t have to use the jig anymore. I do not recommend doing this at all. Like it was recommend to you in previous post, keep your switch in sleep mode.

Finally, thanks for the info!
What is the best way to perform a nand backup? Hekate or by booting Linux?

1: Buy any DLC you want before using SX OS, I have BotW cart and I don't see DLC "backups" working any time soon.
2: You can absolutely play normal game cards in SX OS. I was doing this before updating my scene released backup of BotW to the latest 1.5.0 version (in OFW) so I can play without the card. Just don't take any legit cards online in SX OS if you care about being banned (I could care less at this point).

I wouldn’t personally use auto rcm, I’ve had a few moments of panic because of it. Just leave a rcm jig inside the switch instead

Didn't know I needed a 32gb Sd.. Gotta get that first right?
Oh yeah. I would get a 128gb straight up if I were you. You gonna need it to put a decent amount of games on. Sandisk ultra U1 128gb is about $40, best value/performance. Lots of people on here also recommend the Samsung evo+ cards. Well worth it

Yeah, already bought one of those, thanks. Any specific format or cluster size?

exfat 32k cluster. If you haven’t done it already, make sure your switch update itself to read exfat sd cards. A message should pop up the first time you insert an SX card in your switch. This is not a system update, it’s just exfat drivers
