Hi,

I've got new(ish) Switch on firmware 3.xx (3.01 I think...).
It's only ever been booted once and an account created (offline) solely to check the firmware.

I simply haven't had time to hack it let alone play any games.... Finally I've got some time now!!!

I've got an SX-Pro and a 400gb Micro-SD ready....

I know that I need....
1) To boot the SX-Pro and run the Hekate payload to make a NAND backup.
2) Then run ChoixDuJourNX to update the firmware.

From there I have a couple of questions...

Since this is a 2nd switch, used entirely for offline gaming (I have another that is stock, for online)....
1) Do I need to use emunand? It seems that this really is only used, if I was jumping back and forth between stock (for online) and hacked (for offline)...
or are there any other benefits?
2) Should I update to firmware 6.1 or should it be lower? (I intend to install 6.1 unless there is a good reason not to...)
3) Should I format the SdCard to Fat32 or ExFat... I've read here and there that there are corruption issues with ExFat (have they been resolved or were they never really an issue?).
4) Are there any other things I should (or shouldn't be doing) before I start playing any games?

Thanks

1. Nope. It is safer, for now. But if you make a clean NAND backup, it should be safe as well. Just stay offline.
2. Go for 6.1.0. You won't lose anything and gain the ability to play the latest games (for now).
3. I'd go for exFAT, because don't want to screw with splitting the files. Just takes time and more steps to get something.
4. Backup and stay offline. Also if you can, reformat your switch and make it EU. Create an EU account and disable telemetry (from the website). Also, don't know if it is still possible, link an account to the Switch (even a fake one).

@Kubas_inko

Thanks for answers... :-)

I'll format the switch then make a NAND backup, then create an EU account and link it,and finally install fw 6.10 via ChoidDuJourNX.

I'm still a little unsure about ExFat vs Fat32... I take it that you've never had any problems?
It doesn't bother me to split files... but obviously if I don't have the then that would be preferable..
Has anyone had problems with Fat32? or is it a bit of an urban myth?...

Cheers

Urban myth with some parts of truth. More people have problems with exFAT. But more people use exFAT. So it kinda makes sense.
But I never had a problem with it on all 4 switches I have hacked.

I don't understand the "stay offline" advice everyone says.

Isn't that exactly the same as getting banned? What's the point?

I'm thinking of getting SX OS to set up EmuNAND for offline backups of all my single-player games (I lose catridges easy :( ), then updating my stock for the games I want to play online.

So that once you want to play online, it will be safe. It is the same thing, except being offline allows you to later go online and pay for fun...

Ahh, you're just saying keep the switch offline all the time when in EmuNAND and bring it online when you want to play online in SysNAND?

I thought you were saying keep the Switch online always.

Well, in my sample size of just me - I've had issues 100% of the time with Fat32, and issues 0% of the time with ExFat

Ok thanks for the info... I'll go with ExFat...

Actually I had'nt intended to use this switch online , but I may just install EmuNand to at least have the option to revert to an UnModded SysNand in the future...
