I know some games don't like if you force overclock them. Well... by some I meant one, which is Colors!3D, which is the only game I know about which can't handle the L2 cache properly. There might be other games which don't like the increased cache, but I don't know anything else other than Colors!3D.

So far it's just ridge racer .. But out of about 200 games I probably played about 15...

@SuperDan You can actually play Ridge Racer with the 804MHz clock speed set as long as you only enable it after selecting an event. It's a hassle toggling it off-and-on every time you start a race, but the framerate improvement is absolutely massive. I played through the whole game like this and I'd recommend it.

you know what i actually tried something similar .. i thought it might be like start the game .. without luma OC LC ... make a save then try it with OC+LC but nah still crashed .... i actually think RR is a nice game ... not many Racers i found on 3ds i have about 8 .... if you have time explain your method & i will try it out & report back ...

Sure thing.

The game runs just fine at 804MHz with one very specific exception, this screen here, the Race Event Select:

ridgeracer-1-eventselect.png

If you press the A button from here with the New 3DS clock speed enabled, the game crashes. So once you get to here, you need to open the Rosalina menu with L+D-Pad Down+Select, go into New 3DS menu..., and Set clock rate to 268MHz. Back out of the Rosalina menu until you're back in the game, and now press A to select the event.

The game will load up this screen, the Race Select:

ridgeracer-2-raceselect.png

And you've just bypassed the crash. Hit L+D-Pad Down+Select again, back into New 3DS menu... and now Set clock rate to 804MHz. Back out of Rosalina again (don't hit B too many times or you'll quit back to the Race Event Select screen in-game and have to do this all over again) and continue playing as normal. You can leave the clock speed at 804MHz until this event is done and you're ready to start a new one.

Rinse and repeat.

You have to do this every time you start an Event, so ... at least 50 times over the course of the entire game, and that's assuming you never replay any events. It's definitely a hassle, don't get me wrong, and you'll definitely screw up and forget to do it a bunch of times, crashing the game. But the framerate is so much smoother, it's like playing a different game. I was surprised this game didn't review better until I played a few races at 268MHz and realized the slowdown is absolutely ridiculous. To me, the effort is worth it for the payoff of a much better game.

Just a Curiosity . Is it best to use the rosalina menu before all games & set them to 804mhz would that increase fps stop lag ect

Personally I just live dangerously and keep 804MHz and the L2 cache enabled permanently in the Luma3DS settings (the ones when you hold Select while booting up the 3DS). If a game is being unstable, like Ridge Racer, then I'll start experimenting with turning them off via the Rosalina menu while playing that specific game, but otherwise I just keep them on all the time.

Mostly i was hoping for something to make it brighter .. or even better ( sharper ) or anything of the like ....
The Screen is fine on my New 3DS XL ... i just wondered if this was a thing ..?
I once found a flashlight app for the 3ds that increased past max brightness and displayed a white screen it reset on reboot by actually worked lmao

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Well written sir... I was just wondering if there was a registration trick a bit like on ps vita . With the registry editor app you could change a few things & it helps to increase the saturation on the screen ect...
What is this registry app you speak of and where can I find it!!!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Ah it might be worth a shot its not like its not bright enough .... i mostly watch Moflex Movies on mine these days ...
I need some type of saturation app that works in 3ds and DS/virtual console mode.
