So I got this R4 last April/May I think. So far I can play most of the game I put on it around that time (except for bowser's inside story). It's running Wood R4, not really sure what version it is cause I don't know how to view what's its current version. Also I got this from somebody with everything set, firmware, games, etc.

    And here are my problems/questions:

1.) Now I'm trying to use the latest Wood R4 version v1.49 I think, and it doesn't seem to work. I just deleted the _rpg folder and the _DS_MENU folder in my SD card and replaced them with the ones from v1.49. But when I tried to turn on my DS I only get a black screen. Did mess something up?

Here is the kind of R4 I got:

I really want to play some new games.

2.) How do I know what Wood version do I have?

3.) Is Bowser's Inside Story really not working on the Wood Firmware?

I might ask a couple of more questions later.

    Thank you very much.

Your flashcard doesn't run the official wood kernel. Go to the website printed on the sticker of your flash card and get the newest kernel they released. If your card is on the RetroGameFan list, download it as it's the best you'll get with the flashcard you have (it's a clone, budget card). Retro thread is here http://gbatemp.net/t...pdatesreleases/ If your card is supported use it or just try the "R4 Clone" folder.

I can't seem to find the site written on my R4 box on any of those list. And I can't seem to access the website anymore, it's down or something. It was on a month or two ago. Is there anything I can do to it in order to play new games? Or run the official wood kernel?

Also would it be okay if I try the firmware in that thread? The info in my R4 should be on the link I provided.

    Thanks for replying.

While older versions of Wood could be modified to run on other carts, newer ones are more locked down.

Your best bet is the thread he linked, or getting a cart with support.

I'm not really having problems of running some newer games like Harvest Moon - The Tale of Two Towns. (So I can assume that it's not that old of a wood firmware right?) I tried Pokemon Black 2 and it didn't run it's stuck at the loading screen when you we're just loading the ROM from the menu. I'm wondering if what firmware/version this R4 have and which updates should I take.

    Thanks for the reply. :)

That harvest moon game came out last September, whereas Black 2 just came out a month ago. The harvest moon game which works is an old game, and Black 2 is a new game.

These games work on the latest official version of Wood, but that doesn't run on your cart.

    Your choices right now are...

1 - The software the other guy linked you.
2 - Specific patches for games.
    3 - Getting a new cart.

Are there any risk in doing number 1?

Are patches for games specifically for older firmwares easy to find? Or do they even exist?

    Number one's safe.

Patches for specific games used to be made all the time, but now that there's lots of carts that have support and thus don't need or use the patches, they're rarer.

i'm really lost on what to do here. Is there some sort of step by step instruction to do no. 1?

What is this YSMENU that I've keep on hearing about? And also this dual boot?

I'm sorry for asking too many questions. I'm still new to this.

You'd be better off checking the info in those threads, I don't know how to do that type of install.
