Okay, so I just got (presumably) the worst ending, where everyone dies. I unlocked the menu option "begin with memories". What does this do, and how is it different from simply starting a new game?

You begin a new game with the memories from your previous playthrough, meaning you can skip all the dialogue you've already seen. Also, whenever you reach a screen where you have to make a choice, it will grey out the choices you've made already, so you know which rooms/conversations you haven't had yet.

EDIT: Well, you can't SKIP dialogue, but you can fast forward.
