Seveal people in Taiwan confirmed they just bought 4.3J virgin Wii and found all Korea
IOS (40,41,43,45,46) have been already existed and most of the version is v3606 which
will cause error -1017 if we tried to install IOS41 or 43 lower version (v3091).
(TBR won't work to downgrade IOS15 if we can't install lower version of IOS41 or 43 .....)

Is there anyone found the 4.3U or 4.3E virgin Wii with the same problem ?

If someone got the latest game "Metroid Other M" and checked its "Update Partition" ,
it had the same Korea IOS.

The solution is to use WiInstaller (IOS58+AHBPORT) to downgrade IOS15 from v1031 to v257
    directly.

BTW, does someone know what's the difference between using TBR and WiInstaller to downgrade
    IOS15 ?

Nothing on the wiimpersonator's logs... Strange, normally online update gets the fixes before game updates & new fabrication...

I have not seen this before.

I justed check wiiimpersonator. It does not show anything like this in the JAP update, so I can only assume that those Wiis cannot be virgin 4.3J...

But if this is happening, then AFAIK yes, people should be able to write an app that uses AHBPROT to patch the IOS on the fly, to kill the signature check, then use this temporarily patched IOS to patch and install other IOS.

    P.S. What about IOS48?
Is it also in these Wiis too?
    /me has a copy of IOS48 v3867... [IMG]

IOS48 v4123 is also included in the update partition of "Metroid Other M" .
(suppose it should be bundled with System Menu 4.3K only ??? )

But I can't confirm if IOS48 is in the 4.3J virgin Wii. (need to re-check ).

    Ah...

So they are the actual working versions of said IOS in the update of M:OM, or are they smaller stubs?

Once M:OM is released where I am I will be able to rip it open check it myself.

And yes, it should only be in the K region update, with 4.3K, since those IOS are only used by Korean titles.
If they were alternate stubs in the update partition of the USA version of M:OM, well then, that would make some sense.

Here is the update partition details of "Metroid Other M".

    Metroid_update_partition

All of these Korea IOS are "active" version except IOS40 v3072 (stub).

Maybe N is planning on exporting some Korea-only games, so they're starting to deploy the IOSes. Are there any, even?

I highly doubt they would release Korean games in any English speaking regions such as the US, which is where this update is made for...

It appears to be a really simple, lazy attempt to stop TBR style downgrading.

IMO, they should have at least made stubs versions for the J/U/E regions, so to would only take a few KB (maybe a 1 MB) on NAND, instead of 9 or so MB.

    Oh well.

Couldn't they simply add those ios to the current online update and trigger another update? Or do they only check SM version during the online check?

    Look at it this way...
Say there is a person that saw the update message when the 4.3 update was put online. "blablabla, new update is out, 4.3, blablabla. if you updated on of after blablabla date, there is no need to update again. oh yeah, there are no new features."

what do you think nintendo's update message would be if they wanted to push these korean IOSes on this person via online update? "there is another update out. sure, the last 3 or 4 updates didnt add any new features, but we said there were 'behind the scenes improvements'. well this update adds absolutely nothing. it has absolutely no function other than to take up space. why didnt we include this in the update you just did a month ago? because we simply made a mistake and now we're pushing this update to cover that up."

theres not much else they could say about an update that contained only useless IOSes. if they did try to say anything else, it would be a lie and people would know it. but by putting these IOSes on a disc or preinstalling them on the wii, they patch that whole in their security and they dont have to make up some ridiculous bullshit to say about it.

Nintendo can add them to the online J/U/E update with great ease, and then tell everyone to update again, if they can be bothered to do so.

I think that 99.9% of every online wii updated to 4.3 would be updated within 48hr of the crap ios addition, and most people are to stupid to question what good the update did for them.

    Exactly.

Nintendo could just do this, and say "performance enhancements", or "bugfix. Please update immediately!", or "unauthorized stuff is bad for you, so we stop it now", or some other crap like they normally do, and most people (but not us of course) would actually buy that and run the update.

It's confirmed that IOS48 v4123 as well as IOS52 v5888 are all included in the
    4.3J virgin Wii.

There is no way to install any lower version Korean IOS (EX:41,43,45,46...) directly by using
wad manager 1.7. (unless by using WiInstall )

Wiinstal should be avoided. Untested/broken/pesky application.
DOP-Mii with AHBPROT is under development.

I am not 100% sure for U and E. (very likely)
But at least JPN on-line update has been verified.
