Hardware 3DS XL has the black screen of death.

I rebuilt my 3DS from a tear down guide I found on the net yesterday and after putting it back together the 3DS wouldn't boot, turns out the guide I followed had placed the ir board upside down and this was what was preventing my system from booting.

I think it's very possible you followed the same teardown I did.

Okay try this... take out the game and sd card, power off the device, and close the system. wait a couple minutes and turn it on without inserting the game or sd card. if it powers on properly, power off and insert your game and sd card.

Additionally, you may want to try holding L+R+X before pressing the power button. normally this takes you directly to the touch screen calibration. If it starts up, pressing B will power off the device, so will going through the touch screen calibration.
