Finally got my 3DS XL today and I turned it on and the first thing I do is look like mad for dead, stuck or abnormal stupid pixels.

Surely enough, I found one tiny stuck pixel it seems (as it changes colour to some degree) smack bang in the middle.

Seriously, COME ON! What is with the production of LCD screens and this lack of quality control?

I organised a return but have to wait another week.

Now, I am dreading if the new one will have even more stupid pixels.

It's a joke really. Some people have fantastic luck and no spastic pixels. My original 3DS is perfect, not a single dead pixel. DS Lite has one, but that one developed over time, and that still shouldn't happen. PSP got one later on too.

I have had enough of being anxious of buying a new console and hoping it's not faulty.

It's not on. From now on I'll return every device with a dead pixel. No matter how long it takes to get a functional device for what you paid for.

I bet I'll be in the minority.

*sigh*

It sucks but unfortunately it just comes natural in the LCD manufacturing process; I wouldn't pin it on Nintendo. There IS a chance you can actually unfreeze a dead pixel with some DS homebrew (forgot what it is specifically) Also I don't know if you are returning to get a new DS, or are you sending it to Nintendo, because the warranty does cover dead pixels

The only LCD screen that has stuck sub-pixels on my is on my laptop (barely noticable)
I would return the 3DS and ask for a replacement.

I guess that I'm lucky

The store I got it from classified it as dead on arrival and not advertised as in a fully working condition. So they offered straight up replacement, but there's a 'process'. They won't test it.

I won't be able to try that as my flash card hasn't arrived yet. Is there a HTML version I can use to load it up via the 3DS browser?

It could have also been caused from transporting.

It shouldn't be that fragile.

Yes, if you buy anything LCD related and no dead pixels appear in 3 months, consider your device in fully working order. Feels good to buy something that's not faulty. Seems to be a little hard for some these days.

I also got a stuck/dead pixel on my touch screen. However, it seems to "bleed" over to other pixels, so it's VERY distracting no matter what color is on the touch screen. Already going to send it in for repair.

I feel your pain. Waiting for the device to come for weeks, it arrives and it's ugly. Sad.

Also, I made sure I wouldn't transfer any data until the device is functioning as it should, apparently once you transfer your data, you can't do it again for a week. Silly how Nintendo have done that.

Wow! This is becoming a joke. Almost a month now and DICK SMITH still can't find my dead pixel.

They have specialists (what the fu??) looking at it for over 3 weeks and still can't locate it.

I found it in 3 minutes, it has taken these monkeys 3 weeks with no success? Dick Smith is a joke!

If they can't find it, they won't offer me a refund or replacement!

:( Never dealing with them again.

I guess *when* I get it back, probably have to send it to Nintendo and take a picture of the damn thing (probably so small it won't come out).

I wish you good luck with your plight. Just imagine your TV having 2 pixels one dead and the other hot that are very noticeable, go and swap it for a new one without any hassle, and the next one has a hot pixel in the dead center. I laughed it off, and finally on the third attempt got a new one that was crystal clear. so again good luck.

Funny you should say that. My TV had one dead pixel in the middle. Sony sent a tech guy over, he saw it and ordered it to get replaced.

Just like that. Under a day. Stupid Dick Smith take note!

However, Sony is not all that great. My PSP had one dead pixel, but they wouldn't do squat! I learned to live with that imperfection.

Nintendo DS Lite developed one 2 years into its life. Couldn't do much about that one. It was a slow learner.

Thanks for the luck, I will need it!

That sucks but maybe by some miracle the pixel just corrected itself, if not, *humor self censored to avoid warning and comment deletion*

Knowing my luck Dick Smith send it back, and the dead pixel is not there anymore.

... Not sure if that's good or bad luck.

Seriously though, customer service reps said they have been looking at it for weeks (I found it in 3 minutes) playing with settings? Yeah right, probably playing New Super Mario Bros. 2 on it! Damn them!

Only logical explanation is the pixel magically fixed itself and I'm fighting a losing battle or they seriously have monkeys playing with my handheld!

Update guys!

Got my 3DS back, this time I noticed another dead pixel on the top!

After calling back Dick Smith requesting their specialist teams to be sacked and giving them some feedback not to hire monkeys again, they told me I can go in store and prove it to the manager there.

Surely enough, I went to the store today and bang, the guy saw the dead pixel in 30 seconds.

Refunded me my money. Just like that.

Moral of the story, when the company says you can't go to the store, call their bluff and go into the store, even if it was an online exclusive.

So now I got my money back, I'm going to buy another one, what's the chances another dead pixel from Dick Smith? Ha!
