Hacking 3ds xl 4.5 updated to 11.0

ive had a 3dsxl for a couple of years and it was great.
my young fella got a lend of pokemon moon from his friend today and updated the sys nand... now i do have the nand dump from when i installed the gateway card

i take it my only option is to do a hardmod then rewrite the original nand ?
while im there is it worth installing the gw again or is cfw the best bet ?

he complained a game called terraria didnt work on the gateway, so its maybe out of date

whats the best way forward from here - i never set up internet access on the 3ds so there was no online play

You might try ntrboot first. I think the lowest price for a compatible flashcard was about $10. Here is the gbatemp thread link.
