Homebrew 3DS Region-Free and Download Play Help?

Hello there!

I am new to the 3DS Hombrew stuff, so please, forgive me if I say something stupid.

I installed Hombrew with steelhax. (Steeldiver Subwars)
I used HANS to play a european copy of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and it worked perfectly fine, but games like Yoshi's New Island and Super Mario Maker for 3DS didn't work. Mario Kart 7 worked, but not the download play part.
Is there an other app for this?

Also, my other question is, would that be possible to do download-play with european 3DS games? I want to play them with my friends.

I have an old Japanese 3DS system with version 11.90-42J .

Okay you seem to not have Custom Firmware; that's fine.
Here is a guide to Custom Firmware:
Read this:

Then update to the latest version (and redownload the otherapp payload again from here if you can't access the homebrew launcher https://smealum.github.io/3ds/#otherapp)
Do this:https://3ds.hacks.guide/seedminer

and skip to this since you have access to the homebrew launcher:
https://3ds.hacks.guide/installing-boot9strap-(frogtool)

Once you're done follow this if you want to change region, although I believe you can download play with other regions with Custom Firmware:

You can. I've done download play out-of-region with people on CFW.

I have the japanese Animal Crossing: New Leaf from eShop. It will work even after I install the CFW, right?
(Sorry, I still don't understand everything about these kind of stuffs)

Custom Firmware will not effect your bought games.
