Hacking 3ds not booting into gateway - how to uninstall

For context, the 3ds mentioned is a Old 3ds XL.

I found out recently that gateway was deprecated, so I figured I needed to switch to luma3ds. When I try to boot into it the 3ds crashes and says "An error has occurred. Hold down the POWER Button to turn off the power, Then turn it on and try again." I'm not sure what files to keep or delete from the system and if I need to uninstall Gateway. I reviewed the 3ds hacks guide but it didn't have anything about converting from gateway to luma3ds.

I cant really do anything involving using the homebrew menu because it wont load into gateway mode.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

The easiest thing would probably be to follow the guide while pretending your Gateway doesn't exist. If you have an emuNAND, you can transfer it to your sysNAND when you're done.

To make sure you know what you're doing, I'd recommend starting from the beginning.

Your sysNAND is probably on something around 4.2 if you were using Gateway until now, yeah.

Treat it as unmodified. You may need to transfer your emuNAND over to the sysNAND if that's what you've been using up until this point.

Probably. If it doesn't work, you can always update your sysNAND and use a different method.

Its been a long time since I used it, how do I do that again

@Dalister If you have save files you wish to preserve that you were booting with the red card, you may wish to back those up before updating your sysNAND.

You can do it from the system settings, but as I said before, you may want to backup some save files if you wish to continue using them. This only applies to games on the red cartridge SD card.

That depends on how you booted the game. Is it on the red cartridge as a 3ds file, or is it installed to the home menu from a CIA file?

Your save files are encrypted .sav files on your SD card. They can't be used unless the guide is followed to decrypt the save file(s).

Are you able to boot into your emuNAND using Gateway?

If the save doesn't matter, you can skip following the save transfer guide.
