Hi o/ !
I'm back with a little question. I've a 3DS XL (NSMB2 Special Edition) in a 8.X sysnand (don't remember exactly but I don't think it's important right now)
For the moment I don't want to install a CFW because of the fact I want to keep the NSMB2 on my 3DS XL so forget about the "install a CFW" I've already have that on 2 of my 9 3DS.

So, now I wanted to install legit CIA.

like this. Simple to do (i've OOThax) but the thing is why it's not working under 9.3 ? No way to be able to install legit cia on my 8.X 3DS ?
This way I don't update it and I can keep the rxtool for later.

Firstly you won't lose NSMB2 on your console if you have an NNID associated. You will always be able to redownload it from the eShop.

Secondly, you can't use browserhax or OoThax on 8.x sysNAND. You can do as the above poster suggested (installing pasta or rxTools pasta mode to inject FBI into health and safety to install cias - you'd need to launch pasta or rxTools each time you want to install another CIA since FBI does not have a valid signature), or, you can do the same but install sysupdater.cia, and update your system to 9.2, then you can use browserhax to get to the homebrew launcher and install cias from there.

Either way you'll need CFW to run the unsigned code (since you can't access the homebrew menu without cubic ninja on 8.x).

But anyway, there's no reason not to just use CFW as you won't lose your game.

Hey all. I currently have an O3DS XL USA running 10.6 rxtools in emunand (menuhax), and 9.2 on sysnand. I purchased a N3DS (small) Happy Home Designer bundle and it came with 9.8 USA firmware. I have a few questions if anyone could answer them that would be great.

First question: Which method is currently the most reliable method in terms of boot rate? I would love to have 100% boot rate on a modded n3DS.
Second question: Do I need to downgrade my N3DS to 9.2 to use cfw?
Third question: Can I use AL9H to boot directly to an emunand? I don't feel safe using cfw on sysnand and I feel like I'd screw up, brick my console, and never be able to restore it.
Fourth question: If I use AL9H and boot to emunand, is it still necessary to install GBA VC titles to sysnand as well as emunand?
Fifth question: How can I go about linking my NNID to my N3DS and use the eshop and all that while using cfw?
Sixth question: Which methods are most reliable for using HBL and downgrading on 9.8?

Sorry it's a lot, I just don't want to screw up this process of transferring my data from my O3DS to my N3DS while modding my N3DS as well.

Sadly I don't have any NNID on this 3DS XL. Just bought this 3DS XL on a huge sale, and I didn't touch it because I'm always thinking of what I can do of the 3DS haha.

Yep, I've really thought that I could use my OOTHax for my 3DS XL but well T_T
I'm gonna update with the 9.2 injection with FBI / sysupdater and after that, I'll clean everything and put some legit .cia (just want to be able to play Pokemon / Animal Crossing without taking my cartidge every time and be able to use HBL for good that's all, I don't need a CFW because I already have rxtools twice, once linked once not)

I've found that my other NEW (yep we change) 3DS XL is 9.5.0 and so compatible with everything.

So two question : The brick is really rare with the FBI.cia (especially on N3DS), and there's nothing different from O3DS to N3DS ? (aka OOTHax / HBL / Fbi)

I would say that a brick installing a legit cia game is almost impossible if that's what you want to know.

And the only difference would be the payloads that the exploits needs to be executed (you don't need to care about this if you use the oothax installer to install the exploit)

You don't need to update first and then downgrade, you can downgrade to 9.2 directly.

I would switch now to the larger SD. If you cannot right now, you will have to follow extra steps when you had an emunand. I would also create the emunand and system format the emunand to link your NNID. Then you could use tinyformat on your sysnand if you want to delete the guy's NNID completely (or maybe you can use the delete NNID option)

Does anyone have experience with Aureinand without A9LH? I did a search but all guides are for A9LH. I'm trying to switch from Reinand, and I've followed instructions to do this. From the AuReiNand thread, it appears using it without using Arm9LoaderHax is an option:

- If using Arm9LoaderHax, unpack the arm9loaderhax.bin to the root of the SD card.
- Else copy AuReiNand.dat and the 3ds folder to the root of the SD card. If using menuhax and you don't wish to use a boot manager (such as BootCtr and CtrBootManager), you can use the boot.3dsx from the menuhax folder. Copy it to the root of the SD.
In all cases, copy the aurei folder to the root of the SD card, and put the firmware.bin in it. New and Old 3DSes have different firmwares!

But all I get is a black screen, even after loading all the right files. I'm on a US N3DS, Sysnand 9.2, currently running Reinand 10.7.

Is anyone using Aureinand without A9LH successfully, and am I missing some steps?

I'm not using Aureinand without a9lh, but the steps are very similar. Do you have the Aurei folder with firmware.bin in it?

Can you describe what you have in your sd card? It'd be much easier to pinpoint the problem since there are a good amount of files.

I have all the files that are provided with the AuReiNand download on Github. These are:

I think you don't need "arm9loaderhax.bin".
Do you have "firmware.bin" inside aurei or inside payloads?

You need a boot.3dsx on your sd card's root as well

You may as we'll make the NNID afterwards, saves complications from trying to save it (you can, but, that doesn't stop people from worrying). Also like you said I think you wouldn't be able to create one on a lower version anyway.

Copy new arm9loaderhax.bin to root. Copy new decrypt9wip.bin to /aurei/payloads and rename it to the key combo you want.
