Another option is to have it hardmodded and downgraded. @hundshamer can do that for you. It should cost less than the price of a Sky3DS and you'll be able to do a LOT more with your system (Sky is very restricted).
no and no. Cia files are downloaded to the sd card, restoring a nand backup would not get rid of them. And the only way to see which emunand.bin is which is to manually test them. Make another emunand.bin, and name it "BACKUP EMUNAND.BIN" or whatever, then load up your others, restoring to that one in between. Afterwards, name each one accordingly, and delete the unnecessary.
You'll never be able to have access to the US eShop I am afraid. Region-changed consoles can't access the eShop at all. The only reason for region changing would be because you wanted to use US cartridges and maybe you wanted your location to be in the US for streetpassing.
depends. Firmware 10.4 and up requires a hardmod, something most 3ds users dont attempt. It requires soldering wires in the 3ds to dump the nand to a pc. If your 3ds came with 10.3 through 9.3, you can look up a downgrade tutorial, and use the internet browser as an entrypoint. Once it's downgrade or if it came like that, look up how to install an emunand using the browser as an entrypoint again. Also with alot of effort you CAN change your emunand region. Difficult and buggy though. And i didnt read the full comment. No, emunand cannot be transfered from 1 3ds to another, but region changes are possible.
Also note if you buy a brand-new console it should come with 10.2 or less. Second-hand consoles are the worrying ones.
You don't have to update, you can use a slightly less convenient entrypoint on your firmware. Install rxTools and use the MSET downgrade to be able to launch it via the DS profile exploit. Or if you don't want to do that you can always access it from the web browser. If you update to 9.2 you can use menuhax (autoboot when you turn on your console or exit system settings). thanks then, I'll just let it go. I've seen a few people panicking about bricking nands in the long term very ambiguously and dumping on rxtools. If it was going to be a problem it's worth fixing, but if it doesn't matter then why bother.
Make sure you have launcher.dat on your SD card. If it still doesn't work, go to the browser's settings and delete save data and cookies and try again. You can use emunand9 also to make an emunand - I don't know anything about it though and have always used the gateway menu.
get OTP helper https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-otphelper-otp-dumping-downgrade-helper.416996/ . It's meant to help with A9LHax but it works the best with this. Download it and restore emunand from NAND.bin.
