How do i go about preserving my saves and eshop content?
Im planning on downgrading my n3ds and getting emunand. 80% of my games are installed as cia's at the moment.

Backup your SD card. Installed games and save data are on the SD card.

how does one datamine a 3ds game?

Decryption and reverse engineering.

You can try decrypting the game with rxTools and looking at the files through a hex editor such as HxD.

It will probably take a LONG time to find anything of value, and there's no guarantee you'll find anything at all.

So I've got a kind of weird problem. I dumped two headers: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Super Smash Bros 3DS through PowerSaves. The Zelda header seems to work fine with basically everything I throw it at (Pokemon Y, Smash Bros, Mario Kart) but the Smash Bros Header doesn't work (on Pokemon Y at least). Whenever I try to connect to PPS I get the 002-0123 error. Now people will probably say this is because of the Chip ID of the original games but since Smash Bros works with the Zelda header it shouldn't be an issue? I used No Ban No Sky to patch the templates. Anybody got a smart idea?

I've been tinkering with my O3DS XL recently and thanks to the kind members of this forum, I managed to setup a good system, like so:

- System Nand is on 9.2. HBL is installed along with menuhax and CTRBootManager. This allows me to coldboot into my Gateway Emunand version 10.5.

But I've also installed RXTools to update my System Nand using sysUpdater. Now onto my question:

I'd like to play VC GBA games and DS Games on my emunand. (DS Games aren't the priority though, since I can already play them on System Nand thanks to bluecardfix)
I understand that Gateway doesn't allow these games but RX does. And Gateway and RX tools can use the same emunand(Which is amazing.)

Can I just download rxtools' boot.3dsx and configure it to CTRBootManager to use my Emunand WITHOUT my red card AND play GBA/DS games?
Do I have to do anything else? (Some say you also have to install GBA games to System Nand, too. Also I've seen some people say you need to manually patch AGB_FIRM to play GBA with RX, too.)

Yes, you can set up rxTools boot.3dsx with CTRBootManager to launch rxTools emuNAND without the red card.

You will need to install the GBA VC games to sysNAND to play them. You can play them in emuNAND, but they need to be installed to sysNAND first. I'm not sure about patching AGB_FIRM. It won't hurt to patch it though, since it's not a critical sysNAND component.

The GBA games (and all unsigned cias) will fail to launch without the signature patches. Other than that, nothing will happen.

If they install to emuNAND fine, they should install to sysNAND fine as well. It's very unlikely that a game cia would brick sysNAND even if it was bad, since they're installed to the SD card.

I ask because some people claimed AGB_FIRM patches are no longer needed.

You've interpreted the information in a wrong way. I'll answer your questions in the order they were asked.

Before:
1. If you've done the research, then you should know that the safest methods available are not 100% reliable. Just be prepared for anything even if you are using the "safest" method.
2. You'll need to reinstall Menuhax as it uses a different payload. I'd keep Ninjhax as an entry point for this.
3. If for whatever reason you've softbricked your 3DS, yes the only way to fix it is to go straight to 10.5.0.

After:
1. Badges? You mean badge arcade (sorry I don't play/use that)? I have no idea what's going to happen to it.
2. Uh, "getting an" Emunand is basically cloning your Sysnand onto a new partition on your SD card.
3. No, ReiNand is a CFW that can access Emunand. But right now it's not up to user preference for which CFW as ReiNand and CakesFW support up to 10.5 Emunand on N3DS. Once RxTools 3.0 officially comes out, then it becomes user preference.
4. A LOT of people had a problem with this after downgrading. It's not that it becomes more stable, I honestly have no idea where you got that from. I have no idea about VC games too, I don't play them on my 3DS. But about the "unlinking and linking" it's about when you have a freshly downgraded 3DS, you create Emunand for it, and then you unlink Nands. Then when you go back onto Emunand and try to go on the eShop, you'll get an error.
5. Yes, only on certain CFWs as stated above (ReiNand and CakesFW). RxTools currently supports up to 9.5 Emunand.
6. For booting into Sysnand, there's only a few instances where you would do that, otherwise you can happily forget about it. You install CIAs and can buy stuff from the eShop fine on emunand.
7. That's an issue for those using .3ds files. I am pretty sure if you're using a legit cart you should have no problems. CIAs should be 100% safe with any online game.

You should be able to use the language patch without the original Japanese game or a Japanese 3DS. As long as you have CFW set up you'll be able to run it.

my son updated to 10.5u on new3ds i never did anything to this 3ds yet. i can load browser hacx with qr code and homebrew launcher will load. but when i go into safesysupdate i do the check files they all pass. but when i go to flash them i get black screen. o can hold down power and get back to system and re do it and still same. is 10.5 even able to be fixed up?

You can't downgrade from 10.5.

OF COURSE I forgot to mention I'm on an O3DS, not an N3DS. Is 9.5 the highest an Emunand can go on an O3DS? Is there a list of games that cannot launch on a 9.5 emunand, or does CWF and Hans and whatnot circumvent all that? Are all the software and apps that require an NNID sign-in to function now screwed because of 10.5's new required update?
