thanks for the help! :) Im following the 30min instruction video for installing gateway now, unfortunately It's saying cannot display software on the SD card, I guess I have to format the SD card to work with the 3DS, is that done by simply making sure It's FAT32? Thank you.
For just play games on gateway its very easy, just install blue cart exploit (something like press A until your 3ds says it's done) and then go to options and then to nintendo DS profile, also if you also want to play ds games you better getting used to redo that all the time you switch between ds and 3ds games.

If when you install blue cart exploit (blue screen with white letters) and it says "install completed, press A to exit", if you press A it will back to 3ds mode with software closed message, then just press home, go to settings, nintendo ds profile and see the magic.

I've installed the exploit, backed up the nand, wrote the image to the micro SD, booted into the gateway menu, whenever i click boot gateway mode both screens turn into grey horizton lines and the system becomes unresponsive.

Now my laptop isn't recognising my microsd, sigh

until the part of grey horizontal lines is fine, the problem comes when he doesn't get out of it, in that case just restart 3ds (hold power button until turns off) and then go directly to settings and nintendo ds profile again, the correct if the lines appear then kicks back into main menu, but when properly inserted the game should be recognized.

Edit: about the sd card, that's also totally normal to happen because the game is wrote directly on the sd card causing corruption and format error messages in windows.

So does this new r4i card allow all 3DS's to play homebrew? I can theoretically grab any 3DS off the shelf and it will be compatible now, no?

ok so, if i play for example, mario kart 7 on my 3ds using gateway, i don't have the update.
if i use emunand and go to the eshop, to download the update, that will work? i think so right...
but, i will only be able to use the update when i am in emunand right? the update will not be found/loaded when i am in normal gateway 4.5, correct?
thanks :)

I have a white DS Lite (can't find a firmware version anywhere, but I doubt this even applies to the DS Lite), the Mario 25th anniversary DSi XL (FW 1.4.5U), and a red 3DS XL (FW 7.1.0-16U). I just got my flash card in the mail today: It's an R4i RTS 3DS Revolution card with the URL www.r4ids.cn printed on the label. I'm having trouble finding setup instructions for my particular card. I see guides on here for R4 Gold, but the card I have doesn't match the ones mentioned.

Mine is basically this:
617723187929.jpeg

I'm mainly going to use this for playing DS games, but does this card support 3DS roms? Most of the guides/info I've found are for cards older than this one. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

Also, how complicated will it be to be able to use this single card with any of my 3 DS systems whenever?

Nope. The card and your 3ds can't play 3ds roms

Was checking the wiki and it says the MT Card supports 4.1.0-7.1.0
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/3DS_ha...at_can_I_do.3F_Is_it_possible_to_downgrade.3F
I'm assuming this is for DS games only, and 3DS is still limited to 4.X
I'm hoping I'm wrong, but could someone more knowledgeable than me edit the wiki to be more specific please.

Also, would a 3DS with the serial #[CW13993357 6] have OFW 4.5 or under on it?

Hi guy's, this is my first post here.. Hope I'm not asking any stupid questions ;).

I found a 3ds xl with fw 4.1 at a local gamestop.. Guess I got lucky because I've been looking for one for a while now. Anyway I will be getting a MT-Card for it and I was wondering if I should force update to 4.5. Is there any improvements in 4.5 over 4.1 that would make it worth the hassle? Or does it simply not matter?

Also, what happens when you want to play games like Zelda that needs a newer fw to run? Do you have to use EmuNand for those games? And what if you forget to load EmuNand before playing.. Will it automatically update you're real nand?

AFAIK, 4.1 may have issues. Best to update. Roms have FW spoofing so that's fine. For retail cart, you would need emunand. You can't force update to 4.5 using MT-card, you need a GW or a retail cart.
