First, sorry if this is not the right place to post this; if not, let me know and I'll put it in the right place. Second, forgive me if I ask some really dumb questions, as I have just started to look into this today. I recently bought a 3DS XL, and had heard that it was possible to load ROMs onto an SD card and run those on the system, which seemed awesome. After looking around it seems I need a flashcart to do this. I have only ever played around with emulators on the PC before so I wanted to make sure I know exactly what I'm doing before I commit to one. After looking around it seems that the options are either Skyway or Gateway. So, here are my questions:
- Which one is better to get in general? I mainly just want to play ROMs, I don't necessarily care about homebrew apps or anything like that. Related to that question:
- Do both run both DS and 3DS roms? Can they run other emulators too (say, VBA or something)?
- I read somewhere that Skyway has a limit on the number of ROMs it can hold? Is this just a limit on the SD card or the flashcart itself (as in, can I just put a new SD card in when it gets full, or can I delete old games to make way for new ones)? It seems pretty limiting if I could only ever install X number of ROMs and then have to buy a whole new cart.
- Which one is easier to use? Like I said I've only messed around with things like VBA, project 64 and that kind of thing. Not to say I couldn't figure it out but is one more plug n play?
- My 3DS is version 9.5. Is there anyway to downgrade that if I decide I want to go with Gateway or do I have to wait for them to update their firmware?
- Is it possible for one or the other to brick my DS; or for either cart to not work after firmware updates? (Basically, if I use one of these, am I then doomed to never ever connecting to wifi again on that 3DS?)
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure I'll have more questions later. Is there some kind of basic tutorial somewhere that is up to date? Also, thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
