Hi peeps,

Just a couple of quick queries before I pull the trigger on a Gateway of you would be so kind.

I have a pre installed copy of mario kart 7 that came with my 3ds - I also have all my saves from retail carts.

I take it I would lose these for doing the emunand process.

I'm just wondering if they are easy to backup / restore?

Emunand seems the way to I I jut don't want to lose all my stuff on the 3DS.

What I could do is keep the original SD full of my goodies and get a new one for use with the Gateway? That way I can get the best of both worlds? Retail original and Clean emunand?

Cart saves are on the cart not the SD card.
Yes you will want a second or even third SD card.
If you play your retail carts in gateway classic mode your retail saves will be fine. If you dump them they will be corrupted and will need to start again. There has been work on this issue but not sure of current status.
MK7 will be fine as emunand is a copy of your sysnand.
Backup and restore is possible, if you find it easy depends on your technical prowess.

Someone posted a really helpful illustrated picture of how to set up a 3DS and Gateway to initiate the hack. Does anyone here have it? Or where I can find it?

I have not seen one except the image gateway includes with the files. It is really simple, why do you need a picture. SonyUSA's guide on max console is good. What are you unsure about?

I just got my Gateway and i was wondering, since I intend to use the system transfer to send my data to my New3ds 9.4sysnand, if it's better to unlink my sysnand and my emunand on my current 3ds (9.2sys/9.4emu). Also I intend to downgrade it after I do the transfer, good idea ?

So if I had a Gateway in a 3DS running 4.X firmware and wanted to play Bravely Default, as soon as I pulled out the gateway and stuck in the BD game in the 3DS, it would threaten to update to 6.2.0, the minimum FW required to play the game?

So once I've played some Bravely Default--something I do often--I then have to use the online exploit to get into gateway, because the profile exploit is blocked in FW >= 4.5.X?

I mean what if the big, evil N-pire decides to force the exploit website to shut down?

I'm confused about emunand/sysnand and very reluctant to spend $50+ on yet another flashcart that will have me jumping through weird hoops, or require pliers to remove from my 3DS, or break. This is sounding like less and less fun. But maybe I'm not understanding something....

I mean, 4.5 NTR CFW works great but it has the limitation of only allowing retail game carts and it's only on FW 4.5 so I imagine newer games wouldn't work.

Here is the problem. If you run 4.x your exiting saves on the retail card will not work. If you run 9.2 they will work in classic mode.

You'll have to use savedatafiler to convert the save into RAW format. Afterwards you create a new save with the patched rom and then you inject your old save in RAW format into the newly created save.

hmm... did you already create a new save with the new rom?

if I understood the steps properly from liomajor tutorial, this is what you have to do now:

5. Switch over to SD and highlight TitleID low
6. Press L + A and then A to create 000400000FF40A00.sav (CTR Card is no longer broken!)
7. Turn your 3DS off and connect the SD CARD with your PC
8. Copy 000400000FF40A00.sav to your TitleID (0004000000053F00.sav)
9. Put your SD Card back into your 3DS
10. Turn your 3DS on and execute Exploit
11. Mount your Game and start it

I know but the basics are almost the same. You already have the save you want to inject in RAW format. so all that matters now is the process of how to inject it in the card 1 rom which the tutorial also has to cover in order to inject the saves that you extract from eShop games.

Anyone successfully done a NAND Hard mod to the NEW 3DS or NEW 3DS XL? If so got a guide or at least a PIN layout.
