I don't know. Just bought this from online and the only game I have to try requires an update. It was supposed to work though. Any suggestions for a different way to test the Start button?

Hopefully it works from homebrew, and hopefully there will be a version to assign another button to the Start button. You could try running it before starting udsploit. I haven't tried it myself so I don't know how it works, but it is worth a try.

EDIT: Ran the button checker you sent. The Start and Select buttons do not work. Everything else is fine. Any advice or suggestions?

Try the button swapper so you could assign, say, the L button to Start.

UPDATE: I have NO idea what I'm doing I don't have any experience with this (Github), so I'm going to get some sleep and read a bunch tomorrow.
So far, I've cloned the files as repositories- I'll figure out how to initiate run & make tomorrow. Thank you so much for your help. I'll be back I'm sure.

Hey guys, I have a new 3ds running A9LH and Luma. I am on the latest version of Luma before having to upgrade to Bootstrap and 11.4 firmware (if I am not mistaken).

I have been putting off upgrading to Bootstrap but I figure the time will arrive shortly when I have to upgrade in order to keep Luma running right. I found the guide for upgrading A9LH to Bootstrap but just wanted to confirm a few things.

Mainly, is Bootstrap as bullet proof as A9LH was as far as updating the firmware? I won't have to start worrying about accidental updates once I upgrade to Bootstrap, right? And secondly, is there any risk involved in upgrading to Bootstrap from A9LH, I see in the guide there is a part where you remove the A9LH hack... just seems kinda scary.

No risk, B9S is as safe as A9LH. When you install B9S you don't have to remove A9LH, it does it all in the one go.

If using the .cia version of GYTB, would one move the "badges" folder to the root directory of the SD card? I'm not sure where it goes and did not locate any info with a search online. Please and thanks.

You could try using JKSM on one system, move the JKSV folder on the root of that SD card to the other system, and try to use JKSM on the second system to import those saves.

Trying to use the Super Mario world 3D NTR cheat. I've put the cheat plug in in the correct folder on my SD card, I've opened NTR on my 3DS and when I start Super Mario World 3D the screen flashes green for a second then the game starts. However when I press X and Y together, the bar menu comes up, not the cheat menu. How do I get into the into the cheat menu? Thanks in advance guys

Some cheat menus use Select or a different button/button combination instead of X+Y. Go to where you found the plugin and see if the OP mentioned how to open the cheat menu.

I've looked, I've seen button combinations like up and select but they don't work. I'm on NTR 3.6 but it was same for 3.5

When are you pressing your button combination? In the X+Y menu or outside the X+Y menu? Select and all other button combinations are supposed to be pressed outside of the X+Y menu.

Ive been given a wiiu on 5.5.1 to hack. When I hacked my own, I didnt haxchi on my own and had to buy an official 3ds game. I need to do it the same way BUT surely, if I go to buy a 3DS game off e shop, I will have to update? Help. Is there any way not to update but download the 3ds game?
