1) You should've installed FBI as cia when you had it on on H&S
2) Cias are like installer files, you use FBI to install them on the console(no particular folder)

1. I did install FBI whichoverwrite the orginal H+S app and carried out various task in accordance with the plan but the next part of the plan tells you to reinject the original hs.app. The plan states to re-inejct the original hs.app before the `reinstalling of ticket` which does indeed require FBI.

In short you install FBI to replace hs.app and then reinstall hs.app as part of the plan further on but even further in the plan you need FBI for reinstalling tickets :)

I`m asking should I inject FBI again to reinstall the tickets ? Actaully should FBI be left on the device at all times or is it best to have the Health and Saftey.

2. So are all roms .3ds files and if so what do I need to do to run them ? i.e. where do i copy the .3ds file to on my sd card and how do i boot them up using Luma ? I`m guessing you mean .cia are auto extratction files ? Like an automatic unzip file ?

Ok, to resume it.
When you have the H&S FBI you need to install FBI as a CIA, to have it at home menu, that way you can access it while keeping you H&S

.3ds can only be used on Gateway or Sky3DS. Whta you're looking for are .cia files. (I`m guessing you mean .cia are auto extratction files ? Yeah, kinda)

Think of CIA files as packaged files to install the file.
Such as when installing app on PC, you have something like "microsoftinstaller.exe". You run the that file, then you get the micrsoft apps.
Likewise on 3ds, run the .cia files on fbi, and you get your games installed.

1. Do I need to follow the - Section VII - Reinstalling Tickets - This section is only needed for devices that did a ctrtransfer earlier and had to back up their tickets. I previously deleted all .tik files in the /files9/ folder that did not start with “00-. I take it that means I do need to reinstall the tickets ? The issue I have is this involves using FBI but the previous step in the guide makes you re-apply the hs.app. Do I need to reinject the FBI and the follow the guide to reinstall the tickets ?
You didn't installed via the hs.app FBI ?

Just realised FBI was actually installed at the home menu and now I have bot H+S and FBI :)

I was on firmware 8.0.0 and follwed the 2.1.0 ctrtransfer/Section II Backup tickets part of the plan. Do I not need to do re-install tickets section later in the installing arm9loaderhax ?

1) since you have A9LH install, don't ever bother with flashcart. Rather, everything from now on uses your SD card.
2) You run the .cia files via the apps FBI, Big blue Menu, or DevMenu, but usually FBI.
3) As you saw with FBI earlier, once you run the .cia files in above, it will appear in your homemenu. they way it appears is just like how you get game/file from eshop

Yes, if you did the ctrtransfer you should follow the ticket reinstallation section of the guide.

It isn't the NAND where the saves are stored, but the SD card. The NAND is just a way to access it.

Think of your SD card as a house, and your NAND as a key. What happened is this. You opened the front door with the key, and put some games in (you prior to it being downgraded). Then, you went to the locksmith and made a copy of your key (your friend made a 2.1 backup). You opened the door with your old key and put some more games in (Pokémon). Then, you dropped your old key down the drain (confusion re: backups). You tried a bunch of random keys but couldn't get into the house (maybe you formatted a few times idk). Then you remembered you made a copy. You try it. It works! Now you can access the data you added both before you made the key copy and after (you used the same key to get in and add that data, it was just a different copy).

You just have to make sure that you never formatted or system transferred between the NAND backup and when the data on the SD card was made. That's like asking the locksmith to come and change your lock. Now your copy of the key won't work anymore.

And not setting fire to the house is a good idea also (not formatting your SD card or messing with its data).

I never formatted or did a system transfer. But when I accidentally downgraded to 2.1, the saves didn't work then. They didn't work when I did the 9.2 CTR transfer you recommended, and they don't work now at the most recent version either. What should I should do exactly?

Hey, can someone just confirm this to ease my mind, please... When I upgrade my SD card (after installing A9LH and Luma) I know to make sure its set to MBR and not GPT and use H2Tester to check it for errors but is upgrading as simple as just copying over all the contents to another card? Will all the installed games and everything work ok?

Yes, upgrading should be as simple as copying the contents to another SD. Everything should be fine afterwards. Keep the files on your old SD as well though, just in case of the off-chance that something doesn't work right.

Restore the 2.1 backup.
Update.

I worked on installing A9LH on a N3DS the weekend of black friday and the A9LH guide implemented the OTPless method. Come today, that method isn't available guide-wise and is replaced with the CTRNAND downgrade. Was OTPless considered too risky or something? I'm curious to know why it's removed.

There were some reported bricks using the OTPless method. I'm guessing it was removed from the guide due to the ctrtransfer having a higher success rate.

And of course, as per the guide, shutting down a N3DS on 2.1.0 is harmless for when pulling in & out the SD card. (Putting it into sleep mode bricks it.)

The guide doesn't always specify whether to shut down the DS when pulling out the SD or to hit select and "eject" it. I haven't done my new 3ds yet and have been just reading over the guide a second and third time before the actual hacking begins but things like that concern me a little. Since I haven't used a 3ds all that much and I am unfamiliar with little things that others who write guides might take for granted, like how to safely remove an SD card for example.

I was just informed on Discord that shutdowns are okay. Sleep modes are a HUGE NO-NO when your N3DS is on 2.1.0. You'll brick. So rule of thumb -- make sure you do the CTRNAND to A9LH installation with no pausing/taking a break in be
tween.

A "higher" success rate... lol. Don't get me wrong, I am very appreciative that guides like this exist at all but I have installed web servers and hosted MMO's on my home computer before by following technical guides and I can follow these guides to the letter... so if I brick my new 3DS following anyones guide I will be pulling out the voodoo dolls and cursing someones children to die of the bird flu. =P
