If you have Sky3DS flashcart, just load Cubic Ninja on it, and follow the A9LH Guide, like @duFunk said:
    https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki

If you don't have a Sky3DS, then you'll need to get your hands on a Cubic Ninja or OoT+Powersaves, and do the guide then. There is no free method of doing it on 10.6 or 10.7.

I'd also advise you you to do system format, prior to downgrade, to avoid this issue:
    https://github.com/Plailect/PlaiSysUpdater/issues/8#issuecomment-218588857

Use SVDT through HBL to get any saves of your system, if any, prior to formating:

When you install and delete a cia from a device, is there a way to convert the installed game back into a cia? Or does it have to be redownloaded?

You'll have to redownload it. There are methods of dumping eshop games and the like, but I wouldn't recommend them, especially when it would be easier to just redownload it.

Figured as much. Oh well :)

Probably one last question I have for this page for now, as I've figured out mostly how everything works, or can use Google for other stuff

I haven't found an answer for this, but is it more or less "safe" to leave the 3DS on overnight? I'm running al9h with Luma and am kind of paranoid of leaving the console on when I'm not using it... But I would like to be able to continue using Streetpass and Spotpass if possible. I'm worried I might get update nags or something like that

It's safe, I do this a lot, my friends do this. Have mostly all my friends on A9LH+Luma3DS CFW SysNAND by now.

Also, if you're on 11.0.0-33, you shouldn't be getting any update nags, you might have seen an update notification, but I've only ever seen this on a couple of the systems, I've done, and just usually a message that shows up on Spotpass, and nothing more, it's not really a nag. And it'll probably be a good while, before the next Nintendo Stability Update, and when that hits, just come back here and see how that turns out. :)

Yeah, the 11.0 update came out right as I started my first mod, and I feel like now is the perfect time to do this mod, since it will be a while until the next update :). I'm just really glad I found out about this when I did, and not a week or two later, or I may have updated unknowingly, since it can be so darned inconvenient without any online functionality... Thanks so much to all you guys at GBA Temp, and this thread, for putting up with all my questions! I'm getting close to finishing my girlfriend's old3ds, can't WAIT to finally be able to play online together :D

When unlinking sysNAND and enuNAND, does the format count include times it has been formatted using system format in settings? I'm just thinking I'm pretty sure it was formatted before, and if that could possibly bring the format count to be the same, I may want to do a couple more tinyformats. Is that sound logic?

Sounds about right to me. But yeah, if you bring the count of formats to the same, you'll end up linking them.

Right. I just read that they can be confirmed to be unlinked by changing something in emu(red)NAND, jike installing a .cia or changing theme, and if it doesn't change in sysNAND, they are unlinked. I think I would rather check with a .cia since changing themes can mess up menuhax. Or is that just in sysNAND? I'll try changing the theme color of emuNAND see if that does it.

If they're linked, changing the theme on emuNAND, will also change the theme on sysNAND, thus uninstalling menuhax on both. Best way is to make a folder on sysNAND, and if doesn't appear on emuNAND, then you're good!

After formatting emuNAND the second time (I can't remember if it did the first time) it did the home menu configuration yadda yadda, and then put a gift on my home menu of Zelda Four swords that is a virtual console from the previous eshop titles installed on the device. Is this an indication of linking? Should I just delete the title from the device? I heard that DSiWare can mess with downgrading to 2.1, and I've already (soft)bricked one 3DS accidentally downgrading sysNAND instead of redNAND...

I would delete that DSiWare title.
Edit: As far, as if they're linked though. I'd just do the folder idea to see if they are linked or not.

How do you make an update.cfg in StarUpdater?

On Windows, open Notepad, put in your complete path to your luma.bin (example provided on the Star Updater thread), once done, File -> Save As... -> Name it "update.cfg" -> Place it inside the luma folder on the root of your SD Card.

I deleted the DSiWare from both sys and red NAND, and the created folder on sysNAND does NOT exist on redNAND, so the unlinking was successful, and the downgrade can begin! Now I just have to be DAMNED sure that I am in redNAND(no folder) when I downgrade... lol. Thanks Cerise!!!

About to finish the process for my gf's 3DS!! I am just backing up the SD right now, and I am noticing that it is 10GB, not including the NAND backups. I think that was how big it was when I first copied it, due to all the games being on it. So, at this point, unless I link the NNID, the games won't be playale (I was able to get all the saves so i'm notworried) but if I'm going to delete the titles to free up space, am I able to even though I can't see them due to not having linked the NNID?

When everything's done and sysnand is formatted, you can link the NNID.

EDIT: would I be able to just delete the Nintendo 3DS folder? or it's contents anyway? and then start with fresh installs of the games since I don'thave the NNID to link to them?

Could always use FBI to uninstall them, if you can't seem them with that, then they're actually not linked to that NAND, so deleting the 10GB folder inside the Nintendo 3DS folder, would get rid of them.
