I've heard so much buzz about games, but we can't ignore the 3D movies that are inevitable. I only wonder if they'll be released on actual carts, or available via download to the SD card. The following opinion can be spit between two categories: Those that plan on purchasing, and those that only plan on pirating.

If you plan on owning the 3DS at launch, and are fine with purchasing 3DS movies, you might be split between two different (and unknown) options. 3D movies could easily be released on actual carts, much like UMD movies on the PSP, or even the obscure GBA Video carts released by Majesco. Personally if hacking isn't an option, I'd prefer hard-copy movies on Cart format, rather than downloaded fluff on my SD card. I don't like paying for digital downloads, because I never feel like I really own anything.

Of coarse if the 3DS gets hacked, it won't really matter how they offer 3D movies, since either option will be obtainable through piracy. If it's a cart, then it can be run as a game through whatever method is available. If 3D movies are only downloadable, and the 3DS gets hacked, there might be a way to take the data copied to the SD card, and replicate it on any 3DS.

Speculation aside, I'd spend real money to have Tron Legacy 3D, and Avatar on my 3DS on day one.

I would like both sort of how nowadays when you purhase a dvd i often comes with a digital copy. If their(nintendo and 3rd partys) are smart they'll give people the option to have the physical and digital media.

Definitely cart if there's no piracy available. Otherwise I'd be paying for something intangible, and I hate that.

Thats a good idea to me. Buy cart, transfer to SD, and have some sort of one use thing on it of course (A code or whatever). However i would still want Digital Downloads as well. The only downside to this is that 3D movies will probably be huge files.

Download. But there needs to be a manager somewhere that lets you know you have already downloaded this one, and so on.

I don't mind downloads, but I would prefer to be able to purchase a physical device, be it a cart or disk with the movie on it. I would like to be able to carry multiple movies without carrying multiple carts though, so I would like to be able to copy them to SD, even if they must be encrypted in some way.

neither, i dont consider the 3DS big enough to watch a film on, even if it is my only way to see films in 3D at home, i just never could see how people can watch films on their DS's and iPhones etc, the screens are just too small to make it comfortable. I would like it if they let you stream/download film trailer in 3D, that would be a nice feature. Or if 3DS films really took of they could include 3DS copies in the blu ray box sets, like they have the digital copies for iphone.

off topic but if sony is smart they'll support 3d on psp2 with hdmi output to tv.

edit: I like having physical media, what if I want to let my friend borrow a movie, or vice versa.

When it comes to fluidity Nintendo sucks, they don't want you to take your media to different 3DS'. They need to develop an account based system to let you carry your current regardless of which particularly system you have.

Considering how Nintendo handles downloads. I would prefer a cart. Otherwise we may lose our movies when we upgrade to a new 3ds.

That hurts. Just because a system is hacked doesn't mean it's piracy.

I agree with your statement, but if the ability to play pirated 3D movies on the 3DS ever happens, people are going to pirate. I was referring to those who will only pirate the movies, but never buy them. To those people it won't matter whether the file is running from a flashcart, or an SD card.

I would love carts.I love downloads but having a cart for movies is a lot better.Though I also like if I could transfer it to my sd card.

I feel that downloadable movies would be a bit of an exploit, especially if we can transfer 3DSware to other 3DS systems (unlike we could with the DSi).

By definition, you can't "prefer" both.
