I think that what he's trying to say is that the DS has died due to the reveal of the 3DS and the NGP, as well as piracy.

He never mentioned the death of the 3DS in there.

I've always been of the mindset this isn't a fight between Nintendo and Sony. It's a future fight between Nintendo and Apple. Nintendo needs to be terrified of the iPad2, iPhone, iPod Touch. A lot of my friends kids dont have a PSP or DS. But they almost universally have an Apple product their kids use so much they have to ration it out. There's going to be a generation of kids who think "Why do I need this other thing that only plays games? I can already do that on my iPhone/iPad/iTouch". This is the problem Nintendo has to solve in the next 3-5 years or they are going to be in big trouble.

Man, Apple is a electronic's company. It made a console once and it sucked... I don't think that they will do that again...

IMO, nintendo 3DS isn't up against apple. It should be the NGP. Capacitive touchscreen, OLED VS RETINA.

Nintendo 3DS is awesome by itself.

Not really. I'm just curious if they can modify their "Fish Tycoon" for 3DS or if that doesn't work on 3DS.

DS2 uses a different update system than normal flashcards. We don't know if that works on a new system.

I suspect you'll have to flash the cart on a Phat/Lite/DSi if such an update is made available. Though you might have a similar situation like the DSi, where if you have a pre-hacked cart you can use it to boostrap the flashing of other carts.

If they're using the same methodology as all the other flash carts are currently using on the DSi that would be somewhat surprising. It's pretty well known how that works. It's obvious the re-ordered the call sequence of a cart load to make existing flashcarts fail. But if the R4 actually works on a 3DS it means that there is no way for them to disable that 'secret' payload that enabled them to go into DS mode. Considering all the time they had to fix this problem it must be impossible to fix and still enable DS games to work on a 3DS. Just a theory at this point. I look forward to some detailed analysis of the hack assuming it's true.

You're forgetting that original DS games, and DSi "enhanced" games work on the 3DS.
They're automatically put into DSmode for compatibility, and as such the only protection there is the same as is used in the DSi/XL.

Technically that may or may not be true. It all depends on sales. Nintendo is up against ANYONE that potentially takes sales away from them. If Apple starts to take a bite out of the gaming market then Apple becomes a competitor. Ignoring potential threats is the death of any company.

Can we take just a small moment to stop the war and celebrate the fact that not only are we in an era of a fantastic sounding new console but we also have a dedicated group of individuals out there that are ALREADY hard at work making the experience the best it can be. We will/should have our old flashcarts working on the 3DS come NA release dates. Thank you to whoever is out there working hard to make sure I don't have just a piece of plastic that has no future. Even if it is only DS mode I still say Thank you.

Well it's not a 3DS flashcart.

A DS flashcart which works on the 3DS gives them a reason to upgrade without having to continue using their DS/i to play DS ROMs.

They mean to say they hate to see a REAL 3DS flashcart to come out so soon as it may hurt the upcoming gaming database. The real deal which can play 3DS roms.

Even if the 3DS carts come out so soon, I still believe that the 3DS will be a success as it is indeed a remarkable piece of work.

You say it as if "people" was a single entity with a single thought about this. Those who are now excited are not the same people who said they don't want the 3DS flashcarts. I still don't want the 3DS mode hacked and I will stay that way as a lot of people will.

So many people on GBATemp don't want a 3ds flash card! Flash cards havent killed a nintendo systtem to date; the shovelware mountain that came with the dsi is often linked to flashcards but the ds has been loaded with crap from day one.
Correction. So many people on GBATemp SAY they don't want a 3DS flashcart, they think it makes them look better.
