Homebrew .3ds file too large to fit on SD card

The .3ds file is too large to fit on an SD card, it's over 4gb. What can be done with this?

Get a bigger sd card. Or if its a 3ds rom, there are some tools that remove the update partition and can shrink the rom. But its only by a small percentage.

You can either use the Gateway Rom Splitter or format the microSD card to exFAT.

I assumed he was trying to use a 4gig sd card. I was thinking "what the hell would that do?" lol

Yeah, it's not too clear I guess it could be interpreted both ways. But whenever I see 4GB my mind immediately goes to FAT32.
