Star Fox 64 3DS hits the West on 9th September, but it's already out in Japan and has given the console's sales a sizeable boost.

Between 11th and 17th July, the game shifted 32,475 units across the country, putting it in sixth position behind two PlayStation baseball games, Taiko Drum Master Portable DX on PSP, Puyo Puyo!! on DS and the first Wii entry in Level-5's popular football series, Inazuma Eleven Strikers.

The launch of the new Flare Red colour on 14th July also contributed to the sales, as 3DS leapt to 46,637 sales, up from 22,943 on the previous week, enough to put it well ahead of PSP's 26,551 weekly sales.

Elsewhere in the chart, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D helped itself to an extra 15,636 sales, putting it over the 250,000 mark since its release on 16th June.[/p]

Well, soon it'll kick off more.

This should make an end to all the people who are saying the portable is doomed (lol). This is just the start and it will all get better, much better. Imagine what sales are like when games like Super (Paper) Mario, Mario Kart or a new Pokemon would do to the sales [IMG] Just to name a few.

Sales in Japan are irrelevant for the rest of the world. They have an entirely different interest in many games and systems that is not shared round the world. For example, the PSP is really big there, still, and yet, it is dying or dead in the rest of the world. There is also no sign of the Flare Red 3DS going worldwide yet, and I don't think a color is gonna be enough for western gamers to hop on top of it if they were iffy about buying.

True, but the titles that are coming at year end will provide a significant boost. Starfox doubled the sales, STARFOX. What will Mario and Kid Icarus do? [IMG]

Of course, everyone loves Star Fox.

Wolf needs his theme from the Unreleased Star Fox 2 for the SNES, it's so much more menacing, seriously. It actually makes him sound like a villain, or at least like he's gonna brutally kick your ass while you don't get a single shot off on him.

Sure that's true that the PSP is dead everywhere except in Japan. However, we in the west love the Mario franchises just as much as the Japanese which alone would provide a good boost in terms of sales. That's just Mario.

Zelda game with Paper Mario style?

They could pull it off, it not like they didn't try a bunch of other different styles. [IMG]

Paper Megaman? Nah, too far. [IMG]

There was a fake Wii U launch list a few months back naming a Legend of Paper Zelda game, of course it was fake but someone is always rumour mongering that title since...love to see something like that though.

I wish it were a new StarFox though. I actually preferred StarFox 1 & 2 over StarFox 64, but
    I'll still buy it.

Lookie here. A good game sells well. 3rd party developers should take note of that instead of blaming their problems on others.

Ocarina of Time barely bumps it over the PSP in Japan but a new color comes out and sales double? Pun intended, but color me shocked.

This is more of a facepalm to me than some giant revelation. That a new color for the system makes it sell while software doesn't.

Star Fox came in like 6th place on the charts so while it contributed, it was mostly the color.

I think no one wasn expecting sales to double just because a new color is released, but I'm happy to see that the 3DS is doing well. I hope they release other colors people want, like Green, Orange and Electric Blue.

I guess Nintendo is catching up with what should've been done at launch.
