hackers should make pressure to nintendo release new updates so hackers had better change of finding one with big holes on it

there is always flaws on a security system, you just need to find them...

Looks like 2013 is a quite good year for 3DS hackers. I'm curious what will come out of this. Any way, good job Smea - to some that may be nothing important, but it's always something!

could the 3ds scene have their very own dark_alex, now that would be cooler than cool. god they were the glory days, where you had the big corp trying to play catch up with the hacker, instead of the other way round..............................sudeki300

why do people keep saying this? this gets thrown into every thread about 3ds hacks, and even on the other 2 threads about smea's progress. every time someone said that, he explicitly said that he never said anything about not releasing his work and for people to stop putting words in his mouth.

lets wait until he says something about his plans for the project before spreading rumors that it won't be released.

assuming smea's exploit is a version of the current 4.1-4.5 exploit, you know that it is already patched, right?

Cause hackers won't release exploits until there's enough enthusiasm in the homebrew community.
That and the incredible piracy disaster of the DS (which made the DS popular)
Don't think that people would have that happen AGAIN.

but your post is 100% speculation and run exact opposite to statements made by smea in the past.

the only person who knows for sure what his plans are is smea himself (well, and the team he is working with), but everything he has said up to this point leans heavily towards release as opposed to your claim.

Still don't think Smealum would release it so that piracy would go rampart on the 3DS.

A release would ofcourse be appreciated.
But pretty much all hackers are opposed to piracy.

    R4 disaster.
R4 was hacked and copied a billion times.
Due to it being copied a billion times, it became incredibly cheap.
And ofcourse scumbags want everything for pretty much nothing.
That + social media fueled it.

I still don't get the "disaster" bit. Did DS games sell poorly?

DS games sold pretty well tho, due to the easily availability of the R4.
How ironic it might be, piracy made the DS popular.

I completely agree. If it wasn't for the R4 cart, I would've never bought quite a few games that I would've passed over otherwise. Like Feel The Magic, Magical Starsign, Elite Beat Agents, or The Legendary Starfy just to name a few.

and this is the problem. you are making shit up and presenting it as fact, even though the facts run counter to your opinion

    (you are also generalizing)

If it wasn't for the R4, the DS wouldn't sell that good.

Now all we need is a CFW for DSi That allows flashcards, and DSi Shop from older versions. (not really neccessary, just would be awesome)

emulators are piracy and saelum is against piracy from what i read

granted if there is homebrew, there will be rom launchers and emulators

no way around it really, if people can create their own code, they will create emulators and rom launchers

If it's never released, does it matter if it's patched or not?

(not saying smealum doesn't intend to release, only commenting on the quoted comment)

The exploit is already patched. The community just mentioned that an exploit was found when 4.5 was the latest firmware and that was enough for the next update to have a patch for it.
