So I've just recently encountered the RRoD (E74 error). However, I find that my 360 runs fine when simply attached to the power supply. When inserting a video cable however, I'm greeted with one red quadrant. I have tried other cables, but to no avail.

My question then is, what is causing this error, and can I simply repair it on my own?

I do not think the XBOX will try and run up unless there is a video cable plugged into the console, it does not have to be plugged into the TV.

As far as the error goes it looks as if your XBOX has cooked itself, get it warrantied if you can, if not try an X-clamp repair or if your really desperate try the towel trick, I don't recommend that one though. [IMG]

one red quadrant is not the RRoD.

that's a different error that you can probably troubleshoot (hopefully) without sending it in. but it's certainly not the overheating one.
