The GBA cartrige standard supports ROMs up to 32 MB. Question is, how many games actually are 32MB? The only 32MB ROMs I've seen so far are video ROMs (cartoons). Do you know of any game 32MB in size? I know one of the main reasons for not having any animations in GBA games is the limited cartrige size, but no games ever used up all the available space. And not to mention that the GBAMP V1 and V2 have shown that GBA can support huge video files.

And that brings me to my next topic. All the GBA games are so damned short. Apart from Pokemon and several other games with artificially inflated playtime (when you leave out random encounters, and the obligatory days and days of brainless semi-automatic battles for exp points, there's not much content left). Think of the levels, regions, monsters, conversations, options that we were missing out because nobody bothered to make anything epic for GBA, just because it was a handheld console.

ScummVM DS has proved that GBA resolution is enough to enable point-and-click adventures (or at least, point-and-press-A [IMG] ), yet there are none around. Why? Hardware speed doesn't matter: Maniac Mansion NES can be run on a GBA, yet there are no similar games made for the GBA.

Thank heavens for the DS (and the PSP; don't kill me for saying that), which finally showed the world (and, subsequently, developers) that handheld consoles are to be taken seriously. Epic handheld games ahoy. I't about time.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is 32MB. That is the only game I can think of that is that large. Although I'm pretty sure there are a few others.

Here are some others that I have:

Riviera: The Promised Land, and Bleach Advance.

Don't know about the other two, but Kingdom Hearts is one of my favourites. And it is (slightly) epic. And yes, it has artificially inflated playtime. But it also has a ot of real content. I'm just sad there aren't more games like that.

EDIT: FAST, most of those are GBA video, cartoons. Hmm, so there are a lot of huge games on the GBA [IMG]

But I stand by my rant [IMG]

Well, Phoenix Wright was originally for the GBA... There were some other nice boundaries pushing games like Payback, Need for Speed Underground, ... The GBA had quite a few RPGs with long playing times. I don't see too much that has changed on the DS in this regard. Many games are still very short...
Game size doesn't have much to do with file size.

I couldn't believe what the GBA was capable of when I first saw Payback. That game really raised the bar. Problem is, not many tried to follow...

I know most DS games are still short, but I'm hoping this will change.
