there are NO cons as far as i'm concerned.

if you have cIOS_rev9 (or 10) installed update via nintendo (so that no required IOS are missing)
then just use IOS Downgrader to maintain the trucha bug in your IOS.

also, you might want to install preloader 0.29 when on 4.0 firmware so that IOS60 gets patched and you can play hacked channels through the SD Card Menu

i dunno, but his downgrader 1.11 doesnt install IOS60 so you end up with a brick if you use it to update without installing IOS60 first...

his firmware updater just updates with the trucha bug in tact, but since i was installing cIOSCORP on 4.0 to play backups anyways, i didnt need to bother using any fancy updaters because the IOS used in cIOSCORP are all old and have the trucha bug anyways lol

but i guess waninkoko's updater could be good if all you want is the trucha bug in tact and have a modchip anyways lol

Con #1 = You will not be able to use Backup Loader to run your game backups.

I had to downgrade to play my Brawl again, because it got to scratched up.

If you don't backup your games then you have no cons, I don't think. Pros would be all the extra features that Nintendo gives you.

Hi i just updated to 4.0 from 3.2 and everything works spot on. usb loader, disc loader and wad install+ the run wiiware games from sd card was worth the update on its own.
i just installed preloader 2.9 as well with no hickups at all just incase of a semi brick. im able to also run the bootmii installed as ios with thr forwarder dol so was able to back up as well and as long as preloader is able to get me back to homebrew channel i can run bootmii and do full restore.

Are you sure?
Waninkoko says his Firmware Downgrader will skip downloading IOS60 if it it is already installed

I had 3.2 and istalled all needed ios files with wiiscu and ios rev 10 ect after update to 4.0 everything worked with no problems. did not need to reinstall any ios files. i have run loads of wiiware games from sd and all work and my usb loader and homebrew also work. with preloader installed i can run homebrew channel and then run bootmii ios to backup or reinstall my backup i made. not as good as bootmii as boot 2 but still gives me good brick protection.

I'm already on 4.0 but I saw this question asked in another forum.

What if your on 3.2 with softmii 2.1.1 and a older version of preloader already installed and want to upodate to 4.0, anything special need to be done besides following the normal update to 4.0 guide?

Ok have taken the plung, and updated using these steps:

Online Downgrade/Upgrade

Prerequisites:
--Homebrew Channel Installed
--SD card
--Wifi Connection (Ethernet doesnt work)
--cIOS installed or system menu 3.4 or lower
--Read the FAQ and be prepared with a general knowledge of Wii Homebrew

1) Install cIOS36 rev10 using Network install mode

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zdztqgmtnyn

2) Downgrade system IOS files using IOS Downgrader

http://www.teknoconsolas.tv/wanin/IOS-Downgrader_v1.zip

3) Downgrade to 3.2 using cIOS Downgrader even if you are already on 3.2 run this

http://www.teknoconsolas.tv/wanin/cIOS-Downgrader_v1.2.zip

4) Run the 4.0 Updater

http://www.teknoconsolas.tv/wanin/Firmware-Updater_4.0.zip

5) Run the IOS60 updater
say NO to install IOS61
say YES to install IOS60
say YES to patch IOS60
say NO to install the shop channel

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PN6WIJRI

6) It is highly recommended that you install preloader to prevent bricks. On the install screen press 1

http://crediar.no-ip.com/preloaderv0.29-cred.rar

7) Hold reset while powering on to access preloader and set preloader settings. In preloader hacks enable "Skip disc update check"

thread here, http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=144835

And all is great, what other apps are recommended for me to use now on 4.0?

Recommended apps? The usual:

BootMii, for added brick protection and some fancy features, but I never bothered with it.
Backup Loader 0.3 gamma, to play backups, as before.
GC Backup Loader 0.2, to play GC backups. I like this one, since I've got a lot of GC multi-game disks.
USB Loader, to play backups from any compatible USB storage device.
MPlayer CE, for any DVDs you want.
GeckoOS, to cheat.

That's all I can think about, although the homebrew selection is huge. Have fun exploring.
