I used bannerbomb to install bootmii and homebrew channel on my v3.1e Wii and I am trying to make sense of what to do next to get everything else up and running. From what I can see from reading the forums I should upgrade to v3.2 (or possibly 4.0 firmware?). To upgrade the firmware I would need to run "Waninkokos firmware updater v4.0" (or use Nintendo Wii update?) which I can then upgrade to either v3.2 or v4.0, what would be the best firmware choice and is there anything I need to be aware of?

After installing the firmware would I need to (re)install anything else? I am intending to use USB Loader GX. The CISO information confuses me at the moment but once I get up and running I should understand it all, it is just a lot of information to take in at once without knowing what to do.

Waninkoko's firmware update is for updating to 4.0 only. Before running that updater, I would strongly recommend you to make a backup of your entire 3.1E nand first using bootmii's backup menu.
If you want to run the backuploader, you must also install custom ios36 rev10, which can be found on waninkoko's site. Installing this before the full system update is the easiest way.

Thanks for the reply. I just noticed that I can install v4.0 from Nintendos servers instead of using Waninkokos updater providing ios36 rev10 is installed. Will doing the update this way still keep bootmii and homebrew channel installed or will I need to run bannerbomb again? Just checking this as I dont want to run the risk of updating and not being able to use bannerbomb again.

yea a nintendo update is ok now but waninkokos is better because you dont have to work as hard to get everything homebrew ready
