2K Games is the latest publisher to pull their games from GeForce Now

80lj09N.png

With the launch of GeForce Now, more and more publishers are quickly removing their games from the service. Activision was the first of which, followed by Bethesda, and now all 2K Games' library have been pulled. Such games include BioShock, Borderlands, XCOM, and more. Nvidia claims that they're working with 2K in order to get their games re-added back to the service in the future, through contracts with the publisher.

Must be hard for boomers to understand how technology works eh

I wonder, would it be illegal then for me to play games at an internet café on their computers with my steam library?
Or lending my friends pc to play my games?
Because I don't own those computers, nor do I own the one on Geforce Now, it's a rental, same with the Internet Café one.

Hopefully Corona will fix the boomer problems. Then we finally get rid of a greedy, money hungry, generation.

Has Bungie actually done anything with the Destiny IP, aside from release it on PC, since Activision Blizzard (i.e. Acti holding the strings of Blizzard's decaying corpse) separated from them?

I haven't heard much of Destiny since that separation news, is all, when prior to that I kept hearing about the IP (mostly due to AB-mandated assholery, such as the issues with EXP earning and that avaricious Christmas event).

I was going to get back into Destiny after they separated from blizz and went f2p, but I was under the impression that they were going to have as unified of a platform as they could across all systems. I kinda hoped that since I bought the legendary edition of forsaken DLC for PS4 that I could use it on PC, but that was dashed. Then I heard a rumor that the f2p model was going to include everything except the newest DLC so I could play catch-up without having to fork over the full cost of an expansion, but nope. You gotta pay for every DLC so I said no-thank-you.

That's all the further I know about Destiny 2. I log into it through GFN to claim the twitch prime rewards just in case the business model gets better someday (you never know), and that's it.

I'm not sure I understand strategy of the game publishers that are pulling out. You'd think that more people getting access to cloud PC hardware, would potentially increase their games sales. It certainly wouldn't hurt it.
I think they're just greedy and want a cloud platform like Stadia or their own proprietary cloud platform that require complete re-buys of their titles.

The signup page is region locked but the service isn't so use vpn to signup and use the service without

I'm a IT Analyst - Network Manager. That is what I do for a LIVING.
I know EXACTLY how latency works, and how to optimize code for latency.
And I know that, with CURRENT technology, CLOUD gaming is IMPOSSIBLE to be as good as local gaming.
It's FINE within a reasonable threshold of latency, but it will never replace local gaming (I'm only mentioning this, because that's what the big companies are clearly pushing for in the long term).
The main issue, assuming low latency connections (1-130ms) isn't even the latency itself, it's jitter (latency variance).
One can, as you yourself said, adapt to the small increase in response time, but you can't adapt to a varying one.

And beyond latency and jitter would be packet loss. With fiber, network congestion is probably a non-issue. Unfortunately, not even in most major cities (let alone the entire US) do people have access to fiber to the home.

Feeling the single frame drop is not subjective in fighting games with 1-3F cancels and 1-2F links.
You miss it, you drop the combo. And a dropped combo is a lot in fighting games.

It's also not subjective with precise jumps in platformers, or skill shots (green shell im Mario Kart), shooters/etc.

Client-side prediction is probably the only feasible means of tackling gameplay prediction along network issues. The earliest I can recall of client-side prediction was with Quakeworld (when internet play was still in its infancy) and even it had no workaround for packet loss. And even when prediction worked, the results were often literally jarring (your character would "teleport" position sometimes after the client synced with the server.)

Server-side prediction would probably only work for low-complexity games (e.g. single player with only few objects to track). Otherwise there would be way to many possibilities and as aforementioned, the tech requirements may just be out of reach (i.e. too expensive, or just does not exist yet).

Did they block a lot of countries?
Unlike Stadia and similar services, this one has been available in my country ever since I looked into it, and that isn't common at all.

If anything, it'll make people lock in on an idea of syncing their own library with cloud services. I understand cynicism towards the industry, but I just don't see anyone being OK with non-downloadable cloud gaming after seeing benefits of downloadable cloud gaming - it's convenient to the point where people will push back against any potential QoL hindrances.

Eh, good point. I suppose my paranoia and cynicism get the best of me when it comes to cloud gaming- It's something I particularly despise the concept of. Not to mention my internet sucks, so I've got a bit of extra bias going on.

Eh... At home I have around 500Mbps so that shouldn't be an issue.
I'll probably try it sometime, just for the novelty of it.

it seems crazy that doing the obvious thing in this timeline deserves praise, I actually finally got around to testing geforce now out earlier and I was actually pleasantly surprised, there is * some * slight input lag but for 90% of non hardcore players I would guess it would be totally reasonable

of course it would depend on their own internet connection, but as long as the games isn't too fast paced I would certainly loved it as an option when I was younger and had a crappy Dell D600 as my only computer
