Okay, that probably rules out messing with things on the SD card, then.

Do you have the latest Luma installed? Also, are you using a custom theme?

do you have a backup of a previous safe state?

i had a similar issue where the home menu was causing my ds to just crash completely, and the solution was to revert to a backup from when it functioned, sadly for me, it was one from when i modded it for the first time. though you should make a backup of its current state just in case it doesn't work, so you can restore it
