Gaming 16gb pro duo off ebay (obvious fake)... How screwed?

Ok, found a good topic to ask about the adapters!

So, I know the adapters and dual adapters sound awesome and such, like "Omg! 32gb of storage with just two 16gb microSDs! and it was much cheaper!!"

Yep, sounds amazing. BUT... can it in ANY way be harmful to the psp slot that reads the Memory Sticks?

If it doesn't, aside from losing data by doing stuff you shouldn't [taking them out of the adapter], sounds ok - I just want to be sure before I buy one... or two [a single and a double adapter]

It's the same size as a normal psp memory card so how would it damage the slot? I've been using mine with 2 8gb microsd cards for around 6 months now and its just fine

I bought a 4gb from hong kong and at first it worked fine but now its working horribly. I'm not sure if its fake or not but is there any chance that it could be acting up because its fake? Also what are some signs of a fake memory stick?

1: produced outside of Japan
2: write rate is slow
3: you may end up easily with damaged data.


About how it may damage the slot, it's not about the size, but how the data is transferred and other things, oxidation... dunno, anything for not using the original one :/

Files start corrupting
Dodgy read/write speeds
Inaccurate free space report
From a Hong Kong seller
Cheaper than it should be
No fakes have Magic Gate Support either to my knowledge
Crappy build and print quality

I got that adapter. it seems kinda slow to make some things [didn't try games yet, but even to show the size it took a while]

Also, the PSP can't format it properly. I get the two base files in the root directory, but no folders [even with the CFW running] this is normal, right?

on your psp go to Game then Memory stick click the triangle button on your psp
you'll see Information click on it check magic gate. if it says supported than it a genuine sony. If it says unknown than its fake.

Showing the size depends on what you mean by slow, mine is 1-2 seconds slower than a normal MS. If you were talking more it's probably the adapter b/c that formatting issue is not normal

It doesn't sound like user-error, as long as you formatted w/ both in it at once. & I haven't heard of any bad batches of adapters for over a year, but where'd you order it from? There are fake adapters out there

Btw my memory stick was fake I checked the info and the magic gate was unkown and my files are constantly getting corrupted.

magic gate unkown is common for all oem memory stick and if with microsd to memory stick adapter. only sony and sandisk original memory stick support magic gate if i remember
