well i just installed it fine but i got no gifts to unwrap and theres nothing on the 3ds menu,
was i supposed to put the nds folder in the 3ds folder? not the root of the sd card?

Nope. You may need to wait a bit for the icon to show up, it took a while for me for some reason.

None of this stuff is illegal. It's all made with completely free & legal open-source software designed to be used in homebrew.

does cfw support cards bigger than 32gb

Even stock OFW supports big SD cards, you just have to manually format them to FAT32 first with something like guiformat first.
