i keep hearing this, that HANS isnt a thing anymore/ its blacklisted by hombrew launcher, idk man,
im new to the scene and the homebrew launcher that i first installed had the hans app too, and i am able to play all my out of region games. i have a sky3ds+.
but i just installed Luma CFW last night and now i can play cias and out of region roms without homebrew launcher.
if you have al9h already installed, you will brick your system if you try to install boot9strap, there is a guide to convert the a9lh into b9s but all this can be found at 3ds.hacks.guide.
but the part where you have to run the japanese flipnote studio to boot b9stool, the instructions were wrong, there is a flipnote studio guide over at the jisagi.github page that had the right steps, then for the last part of the installation, it links back to the guide over at 3ds.hacks.guide.

Edit: i guess the 3ds.hacks guide works, i misinterpreted the steps. but the guide over at jisagi.github was easier to follow and recommended by a few people here.

BTW, that firmware version doesn't exist.
I keep hearing conflicting things about Hans. Every time it comes up nowadays, people mostly just say, "Forget Hans, Hans is dead, install CFW".
But just how broken is it? And why is it broken in the first place? Obviously something changed in one of the firmware updates, but what changed? Is the problem that it actually requires more than "userland" access? (I've heard the "old version downloader" still works, but that is apparently a very minor eShop patch.)

i have hans when i first installed the homebrew launcher, it played all my euro or jap roms on my sky3ds+ but now i have cfw.
with hans, you cant play online with other region roms,
cfw lets you dump a game catridge to cia format to install to the systems sd card and you can play online without getting banned.

jisagi worked for me, easier to understand.
all thats needed on 11.9 for cfw is a pc, a torrent client like utorrent or qbitorrent to download a specific file on the site, and 7z so you can extract files

Your efforts are appreciated, but you sent me the same version of Hans included in the Homebrew Starter Kit from http://smealum.github.io/3ds/ . I don't think there's any other version in circulation right now.
I haven't tried to experiment much with it since everyone seems to say it is broken, without elaborating about how specifically it is broken. (And I would rather not wreck anything on my 3DS accidentally.)

i have a usa region new2dsxl and i use a sky3ds+, i put the pal games on there and go to hans. it will show a system app or something, i just eject my sky3ds and pop it back in and it sees my pal roms
i played with wifi turned off of course.
thats what i know from exp. im guessing youre wondering about online play? i dont think it supports it. cfw does however.
long story short if you have pal game cartridges or a sky3ds+ you can play region free. offline at least with hans.
i was totaly happy with it. how else was i supposed to play yo-kai watch 3 when it hasnt been released in the usa yet? lol
i didnt want cfw either but it literally takes like 20 mins.
my console is fully loaded in one day
from stock console with a sky3ds+ and cubic ninja for my homebrew launcher
to cfw, region free online play, anygame.
and 7 emulators with over 10,000 roms. custom boot screens, themes, whatever i want.

i had 2.0 with cubic ninja/ninjhax and i used hans all the time with my sky3ds+
but i always played with wifi off.
because im not stupid and i know about private headers.

That's *hax 2.0, which launches the Homebrew Launcher 1.0. You can use it with the Homebrew Launcher 2.0 if you want, but I don't think there's any advantages to using it with *hax over the HBL 1.0.

there was a 3dsx FBI that installed legit cias, which is like 8 titles.
but only works with 11.2 and below.
is there any advantages to keeping 11.8 over 9?

First, install any custom firmware (Luma is the overall best).
Second, download the latest version from the Github page.
