i have an ambitious goal of porting one of terrarias latest models to the 2ds. as far as im aware, the specs needed for 1.4 terraria are just below the hardware capability of the new 2ds xl and 3ds xl.
i have found the full source code in c# of 1.4 terraria, and after a bit of research it seemed like i would be able to convert this into c++, a compatible coding type for the proccessor of the 3ds's.
There are several .exe to .cia converters online which i could use to install the software onto the 3ds. With some debugging afterwards, i am hoping this will work. If you have any expertise or advice as to problems with this, i would be extremely grateful!

that most certainly will not work. And judging by the way you are misusing terminology, nothing you could do would work.

you will have to do a LOT of work to port terraria pc to 3ds like months of work what your trying to do will not work

I'm sorry, but you will not run the desktop version on the 3DS anytime soon.
They even had to cut the *mobile* version down to get it running on the 3DS. Although, I reject their excuse for not getting hair colors and rainbow blocks working, they just don't know how the GPU works, it's very minor work to make it work on the 3DS, and they didn't/couldn't...

Anyway, just the RAM usage alone kills the project before it even starts. And I won't even mention how bad 1.4 runs on my i7 laptop, you'd be lucky if you could still measure the performance in frames per second instead of seconds per frame.

Also, you'd have to port XNA/FNA to the 3DS. Lots of graphics abstractions, quite a lot of which are not supported by the 3DS GPU.

C# to C++ is IL2CPP, it's used by Unity, and required for Nintendo platforms (as per Nintendo's rules of no code execution outside of Nintendo-approved native code allowed).

Even if you had the knowledge of both the 3DS, and the technologies that Terraria uses, it'd still take you years to do this port. Even with multiple very talented people, it would still take basically a year or so.
Not to mention all the modifications you'd need to do to make it run on inferior hardware.

Oh, and if you think I'm being mean or harsh... have you tried Terraria for the Switch? If it runs like that on the Switch, I don't want to know how it would run on a puny new3DS.
There is a reason that the 3DS version runs on some outdated 1.2 hybrid. Even my Android 2.2.2 tablet (upgraded to 4.0.4 unofficially) can run it at 60FPS. Meanwhile the new 1.4 one struggles on my i7 laptop, let alone on my phone running Android 11. Again, it's borderline unplayable on the Switch.
