    how to reproduce:
play the game about half way through until you come to that water-elevator tower.
step into the teleport and cycle through the target locations.
the game crashes after about 1 to 4 target changes.

    reproduceable on:
    M3 Real v3.4:
normal start (no cheat, no soft reset)
    with softreset
with cheats (I'm a lousy player, so I have to cheat)
M3 Simply 1.07 (only normal start tested.)

but works ok when started on M3 Real v3.4 with download play enabled. (Y-button).

Do I have a clean dump?
I guess so. but if you do not have this problem with your dump, please check the md5 signature of your file against mine:

the crashes occur also during normal gameplay, but less frequent.
the seem to increase with the amount of 'map' that is revealed.

I can provide you with the savegame if you whish.

in the rare case that someone does not know what an md5sum is or how to create one:

Please try using the latest firmware and load the game again.

This is a known problem the game requires a better class memory card (speed wise).

might also be just another game that doesn't support soft-reset.

there are several games that freeze/crash when you have it turned on.

It is a known problem. It crashes on almost every flashcard with a not-so-fast memory card.

Try with a faster memorycard (try with a Kingston Japan one), but be warned that it might still crash.

thanks for all your replies and tips.

I've tested it with the 3.7 firmware although this issue was never mentioned in any of the changelogs from version 3.5 to 3.7.
    well.. it changed nothing.
(however, an upgrade from 2.8 to 3.4 fixed the video problem in "0105 - Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow (E)", it did work fine on the simply all the time)

then I tested an other microSD card. had a 2GB kingston (taiwan) from my mobile phone.
this card, as well as the oroginal one (sandisk ultra 2 (also taiwan)) had exactly the same issues.

some of you mentioned that the reading speed is important.
so I measured the reading speeds of that cards:
    sandisk ~7MB/sec
    kingston ~13MB/sec
how fast ist that japanese kingston?

well, has anyone not ignored the fact I mentioned earlier, that the game works 100% ok when it is started with the (Y) button (download play -> not doing any fiddling with the binary)
that is the reason why I posted this here in the first place and did not go out buying microSD cards like crazy [IMG]

if it is never the less a card related issue, then it has nothing to do with the speed such a card can achieve while transfering files using a computer.
it must have something to do with the physical interaction wuth the reading device.
the m3 carts seem not to be very robust to differing physical specifications of certain microSD cards.
this can have many reasons, but I will not go further indo that detail here.
I also don't think this is the case here.

I've just descovered an other interesting thing:
the game (in normal mode + soft reset) is totaly stable unless you use the teleporter. (the first teleport ist also no problem. but after the first teleport the game gets unstable.)
so all I have to do is running around instead of using the teleporter.
