Just as I had suspected, well at least ultimately, it was something with router settings. I have a 2wire 1701HG router, the default settings didn't seem to go well with the way games on the R4 connected to through wifi. @Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.+1 -

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
